In search of a somewhat deeper focal length then my macro I played with my little prime lens today. The pictures are not that great but not bad.

Hi Pat,
Those were taken with a 35mm lens at f 4.5 in the morning , around 10 am? (exif data)

man that florida sun is harsh early! The passion flowers details are very clear and crisp Pat. The bright sun takes away a bit though.:( I bet if the pic was much earlier it would pop!

question, do you play around with exposure compensation ( ev)?

Al, it is trying to rain now and continue into the evening hours. Over wise I would have played later in the day. The picture was taken about 3 this afternoon. Here's a similar flower without the harsh sun with the macro lens but the focal depth is shallow in comparison. I have not played with ev yet.

Pat its A roaring t storm here right now..lol.looks like a hurricane!

on the ev .. play around with it. Its an excellent tool. Think of it like increasing or decreasing the cameras sensitivity to light. So on that first passion flower where the light is strong..you decrease the exposure by degrees. yours probably goes by values of .5

so -.5,-1,-1.5....-3 may help prevent over exposure. ND FILTERS are another option.

by the same token...you can use the increase in ev to help prevent under exposure.

I like your second picture Pat. The rendering of that lens is rather different from your macro. My tam90 renders similar to this as well.

Harsh light is very difficult to photograph under. May I suggest purchasing a reflector and using the diffuser side of it? Or, simplyi take a piece of 8x11 paper or wax paper and hold it over the subject to block the harsh incoming sun rays. This helps to diffuse the sun glare.

Thanks Al, I will play with that :)
