Starting up a 60g Discus tank and have been debating which one is "better"?

I do have a Sunsun 302 and it's amazing for my 20g tank. But wanted to add another stage for Discus since they rely on more clean water.

Or should I grab another 302?

I was also thinking of adding a Hydro sponge as well in the 60g

This is how I would set up a 60 gallon.
Aqua clear 110 HOB (never use carbon with discus)
Fluval 306 canister
Hydro V Sponge filter powered by air
Large air stone
Air pump "tetra whisper 100" run flat out with only back flow valve.
Sand substrate (pool filter sand).
With this setup you can over stock to your hearts content and you will never have a toxin spike as long as it's cycled and regular water changes (3-4 a week).

If your just looking to add to your setup add an aquaclear110 and a hydro sponge.

My 60g is a Truvu acrylic tank, so I dont think a HOB would be possible :/

Get another canister, I don't really like the Chinese ones, I have one and it under performs.

Two large Hydro sponge filters is more than enough for a 60 gallon tank. You could also use any canister rated for 75 gallon tanks. If you go with a canister filter, try to keep water flow at 300 -400 gph.

There's no need to add all that filtration plus air, it's overkill and discus don't do as well in water with high movement. A 60 gallon tank will support 6 discus and 2 sponge filters or one 75g rated canister filter is all that's needed.

I ran a 55 gallon tank at two different points in time using first a canister and the second time using two hydro sponges. It was used as a grow out tank and handled 6 discus plus cardinal tetras and corydoras quite nicely.

The fish grew quickly and remained healthy.

Water changes for grow out tanks needs to be daily though, not 3-4 per week. Adults can handle the smaller number of water changes.

I use fluval406s they are rated for up to 100 gallons. They put out 380gph and hold a lot of media they are also silent. Have to check if they are running sometimes. If you order them online from Petco and sign up for their pals reward your first purchase is 20% off. I think with taxes it was around 160-170. Free shipping. I have mine filled with foam and ceramics with filter floss in the top tray. Great filter in my opinion. I have 2 of them on my 125.

I have a 306 & fx6 on my 120g the flow is great, compared to my sunsun it's a joke.
306 or 406, both are great, the main thing is you need ultra clean water.
Plus I always have an air powered hydro sponge too!

I've been using a 304b and two large sponge filters on my 65 gallon with no problems. But I only have a breeding pair so they probably do not make as much waste as a fully stocked tank.

I have a 304B that works perfect, I have one coarse and one fine pad in the bottom basket and below the bottom basket I put bio balls just to break up the flow.
The rest of the baskets are filled with pot scrubbies (at least 50), I don't use the spray bar and it has very good flow in a BB 90 plus it's silent...
