no. you cannot. discus do not belong anywhere near a 10gallon tank, even for hospital/quarantine purposes. First of all, you cant do just one discus bc they are schooling fish and prefer groups of 5 or more and second of all the 10gallon per fish rule does not work this way. IMO bare min size is a 75 gal tank for a group of 5. Some people use 55 gal tanks for growing out but for adults you need lots of room. you have been a member here too long to ask a question like this.

I commonly quarantine/hospital in 10-15 gal. tanks but otherwise wouldn't recommend trying to keep a fish that may have the potential to grow to 6"+ in a tank that is way to small for them.

As this is only your 2nd post you may still be new to this but the short answer is it wouldn't work out well for you and especially the fish. They just need more room. If you're new to this then check out some of the info. on the forum about keeping them, very instructive.

Regards.

OP I may have spoke to soon on how long you had been a member. I just assumed you would know better but you may be young, and seeing as how this is only your second post, maybe you are still young. I apologize for my rudeness.

Should not is not strong enough of a term. Please get at least a 55g and put 5 of the them together as a shoal.

You might go to jail if you replaced 'Discus fish in a 10g' tank with a 'dog' stuck in proportionate dimensions.

Technically, yes you can. it's your fish and you can do whatever you want with it. Maybe you need to ask that yourself. If I'm a fish would I be ever happy if they put me in tight space?

pet stores do this all the time with beta's in small cups, but I digress...

I think there are no silly questions. I would rather that you asked regardless of the sharp ended replies than actually go through with the plan and ask later. I think you understand from the previous replies that the answer is no. Rufus
