I personally do around 90% every night. Depending on what and how much you are feeding and tank size a lot of people will probably suggest multiple water changes a day with fish that small. The cleaner the water the better they will grow.

How much is to much?
Maybe 400%...lol
I don't think you can do too much.
As long as the parameters are matched to your tanks, I think you can change all day, all night long if you want.
There are some people that do 100% everyday on grow out tanks.

When I was growing out juvies I did a 50% WC in the morning, right after their breakfast and then a 95% WC at night after beefheart feedings (I snuck in one feeding before my dinner and one after dinner, then did the water change 30 minutes after that feeding).

I fed them beefheart for breakfast, changed water, then put a couple cubes of Al's FDBW's into the tank to hold them till noon. A mix of flakes for lunch, then 2 more cubes of FDBW's to hold them till their evening beefheart feedings.

If you're not going to be home for the lunch and afternoon feedings you can use an auto feeder for the flakes and put the cubes into an upside feeder cone so that they can snack all day.

They grew like weeds with that routine, so I always stuck to it.

Adolfo what size grow out tank are we talking about? I would hate to think your growing them out in a 120g and doing 70% - 80% w/c every day.
It's best all the cards are on the table as tank size was not mentioned and have second thoughts when you get your water bill.

Thanks for the update...you may want to plan getting another larger tank as they will soon grow out that 20g before you know it.

Yes have a 55g and Lord willing if we recover from this drought would keep eye open for 75 - 90 g - Lighthouse

Move them to the 55g.on the 20g i would do 100% morning and 100% at night.on the 55g if you syphon after feeding you can do 50% morning and 50% at night i think.

Actually, if you keep them in the 20g till they reach 4" (about 2 months) you can then move them to the 55g.

Stick to 50% WC every morning and at least 90% every night in the 20g (for a total of 28 gallons per day) and then once they go into the 55g at 4" you can get away with an 80% WC (44 gallons) once a night.

When you get them to the 55g tank, just be sure to only feed beefheart in the evenings and not in the morning anymore.

The safest choice for filtration is going to be hydro sponges - no chance of food rotting in them, easy to rinse off in used tank water once a week. Quick and efficient means the lower percentages of WC's won't end up harming the new babies with rotting food.
