So I decided to check out the LFS nearby the house and I shouldn't have. They had some decent size blues for a steal of a price and I noticed 2 fish had paired up and claimed half the tank. Brought these fish home on Friday evening and this was Sunday afternoon. These two fish are like two peas in a pod. Lol

Right! The wife was crazy surprised. My son was taking pictures with his ipad and he can't stop talking about it. Funny how he is with them now that he's older. He's fascinated by anything that hatches from an egg, dinosaurs specifically but discus will do. Lmao

Lol, I promise they were in mid spawn when they bagged them.

Yeah. The wife kind of mentioned putting another tank up when I told her about them. That was all she wrote. Had the breeder setup and built a stand before I had the fish acclimated and floating. Lol

Wow, they must be so glad you bought them. Now they can raise a nice family, with you helping of course. How old is your son now?

Each fish was 6800 yen which equates to about $56.

From the looks of them that was a very good price because usually we hear that Japanese fish are off the charts price wise. Do LFS in Japan have, in general, better quality discus then here, which in actuality quality is nonexistent ?

Occasionally there will be some fish pop up in the LFS that are decent. Prices can be wide ranging. But yes, high quality discus in Japan are extremely high priced.

That wasn't just a steal, Eddie, that was highway robbery !

That pair would have cost me at least $250. CDN here in Vancouver - probably more - and near $400. in USD.

We'll see if they are confirmed in the coming days. Would be cool though. ;)

Well done Eddie! How's the tap water in Japan? I didn't keep fish when I lived there so never had a reason to check. Just curious what the parameters are in your area.

Definitely. About half the eggs turned white. I wasn't expecting them to spawn. The sponge filter was literally right in front of the spawning site so maybe the current had some impact or maybe the male is still young.

Very nice Eddie! Congrats:)

Ardan

Thanks Ardan.

It's not ideal, really weird actually. It's sourced from several underground wells and honestly, I'm still trying to figure out exactly how it's affecting the fish. TDS is about 60-75 and the PH slides pretty easy so there is very little KH. PH before aging is 8.2 and after aging, it drops to about the 7.8-7.6 range.
