Hi,
A layer of white foam has recently appeared on the water surface in the sump from where I have the drain which drops the water from the tank into my sump. The picture clearly shows the foam. Any idea what it could be?

Was there any kind of medication in the tank?
I had something similar when i had formalin in the tank

What causes it is still a mystery, did not have any meds at the time. I still get it sometimes.

It is simply organic material. Usually indicative of not having stellar water conditions or overfeeding. Do you feed BH?

Interesting thanks, good to know. Yes I feed BH.

that is basically how a protein skimmer works. They are supposed to not work (well) in fresh water, but you may consider putting one in your sump to see/experiment.

When I see it on my tank surface, under the UV return, I KNOW it is time for a water change!
