Water changes challenge!

Time yourself and divide total time by number of total gallons of water changed.

The point of this thread is really just for fun, not really going to be very informative.

Total time: 36.93 minutes (time includes putting away all water change equiptment)
Appx. Gallons changed: 105 (4 tanks)
105/36.93= 2.84 gallons minute

So it all started from doing a regular water change. I was about to start but this time i just had my phone out and i decided to time it from start to.finish. .

I'm hoping this thread might bring some fun for some of youout there doing the regular water changes we all do for our discus.

Just did mine today - here are the results:


Start
21:43 - Vacuuming and sand raking completed
29:29 - 55g water pumped out of the tank
37:23 - 55g water pumped back into tank from aging barrel
41:20 - Aging barrel refill start
1:02:52 - Aging barrel refilled, everything put away. Done.


It takes me about an hour each day. Interesting thread! Never times it before like that :)

Here's the secret to cutting down the time for your water changes by half.

See I change (including siphoning) roughly 650 gallons a night in about 45 minutes...if I don't hurry....so about 14 gallons a minute.

I change straight tap 40 gallons in 20 min . aprox.
8 min. draining and 12 min filling the tank .
i can speed up my draining 8 min.time with 2 pythons as willie said , but i cant do nothing with my tap pressure .

BTW Needless to say ,but its a 2 gallons per min. WC.

If we're talking just wc and not wipedown, I do a little over 400 in less than 30 minutes.

I'm never in a big hurry to get the water out of the tank... because I do household chores while it drains. I've used a pump in the past, but dang! I have to watch it like a hawk or it'll drain the tank nearly dry in nothing flat!

So, here's my timing from just a little over an hour ago:

3:05 - Started siphon with Python, grabbed out sponge filters for a quick rinse and wiped down tubing.

3:08 - Pulled siphon off of faucet and ran it out to the garden

3:12 - 3:20 Vacuumed the sand, scrubbed the sides and put the sponge filters back into the tank.

3:20 - Cleaned up my kitchen and started dinner, then hung up a few more Christmas decorations

3:40 - Pulled the siphon out of the tank, stuffed poret foam block in the end and plopped it back in the tank.

3:42 - Hooked the other end of the siphon back up to the faucet, primed the water temp and started filling the tank

3:42 - 4:09 Put the finishing touches on my Pizza dough, gabbed on Skype for 12 minutes and puttered around (the nice way of saying I made a trip to the loo!)

4:09 - Flipped the switch on the power strip, shut off the water, looped the hose and hung it up.

Done!

That's a 90% WC on a 120g tank.

Kudos to you guys that change more than 100 gallons in 30 minutes. I'm guessing here but you guys are probably using some sort of pump from your aging barrels to refill your tanks? Like Filip said, draining is quick but the bottleneck in my water changes is filling straight from the tap, that takes the longest.
