Hey everyone - I finally got my head screwed on right, removed the plants from my tank, and upped wc's to 90% daily. 2 of the larger fish seem to be hanging out together and cleaning off the filter intakes occasionally. No intention of breeding (right now anyway - but this hobby is addicting!) but it would be awesome to see if they laid eggs.

Any issue with these? (A labelled 'discus breeding cone' on Amazon was >$20. These are much cheaper...). Maybe a better question, do I even need cones or will they just lay eggs right on the glass? Problem with the intakes seems to be that they are uncovered 1-2x/day when i do wc's. Thanks!

they will lay on glass if nothing else available, Those I'd bet are going to be to tipsy to work. You can use a upside down clay in a pinch.

Use Barbs cones for $12-$14 you cant beat it. If you just want to see them lay eggs you wont need a cone they will find a place to lay when the time is right.

Barbs cones are awesome, heavey and my pairs seem to love them over the terracotta color for some reason.
I have several of the kind that are swirled light color to beige.

i also have the swirled cones from barb. i love the look of them, pieces of art in my tank! and the discus love them too, they lay on them constantly.

the cones come with these little fitted cages that easily slide over to protect the eggs from beginner parents. i usually have multiple cones in the main tank, so the fish dont have to fight over them :)

here r some discus checking out one of the cones. love the pattern on this one

Funny, mine is around 6-7 years old, about 6.5in, he still breeds awesome, and yes he's the king when he's in a community tank. Hes fair, only smashes other tank mates when they challenge him.
I may have around 30 plus adult discus, he's the most alpha of all my adults.
