A fairly simple question but getting many different answers.
Since footprint matters as well I thought I'd ask here at simple discus.
I have a corner-aquarium which holds roughly 75-80 gallons all considered.
The footprint, if calculated right, is 6000 square inches.
How many adult discus would be a good idea without gambling to much?

6 and that would be pushing it. Corner tanks typically do not offer a great footprint.

Was told 8 would be fine, but seems a bit much and I was worried about the shape of the tank. I think I'll aim for 5-6. Thanks.

Is it a standard corner "cone" type aquarium?

I'm not sure what you mean by corner cone type aquarium.
It's a juwel trigon 350.
I'm not planning to grow juveniles. Was thinking 5+inches.

I think 6 would be quite acceptable, but 7 or 8 adults might be pushing the envelope a bit.

agreed. I wouldn't do more than 6 actually. That footprint is really awkward and the discus have less swimming room length-wise which reminds me of my 56g bowfront which doesn't give discus the proper space to swim away from bullies. So, 5-6 would be my recommendation. This is one of those scenario's where the rule 1 discus / 10g of water does not apply.

Being new a new discus owner the last thing I want is to make things difficult for myself.
Thanks for your help.

Sorry that was my best description, looks like an ice cream cone in a way, lol...

But I agree with the good advice you were given, good luck and keep us posted!

What strains are you thinking and which sponsor?

corner tanks have a lot less surface area per gallon. gas exchange can suffer because of this
