So I been thinking about this and hopefully you guys and gals can verify this for me.
My RO unit is 100GPD. My holding tank, 32G brute can, can't hold 50% water of the 90G. So then the nitrates start building up over time. So i'm thinking for a pair of discus a 40g breeder makes more sense than a 90g in my case. Larger % water changes = less nitrates right?

I agree that 40 g With more WCs would be more appropriate environment for growing and keeping your pair .

Thank you. I didn't if my thinking made sense. Like say if each fish produced 1 unit of nitrates every day that would be 2 per day. Even a 50% water change every other day would be (2*D)+T/2=x D=days and t=nitrates not removed from last wc.
So 1st water change would leave 2 nitrates. Then 2nd water change would leave 3 nitrates, and so on.

I get what you are saying . With 50 % you only dilute the nitrates, but with 100 % WC you get them to zero.
Regardless of the math behind it I know that thats what breeders do also. They ussually go with less water and more changes , not the other way around.
