As most of you know I bought some Discus that were not very good.
But with great advice and tips please find a before and after picture of my worst looking baby.
I think it is a great change.

Nicole, I know you're trying... But you need new stock if able. Hard to part from any fish you take in but man you're missing out on a great discus experience. Please don't be mad.

I'm not mad. But........ I love these guys.
I will be getting another 2 soon.
And now I have learnt a lot about purchasing Discus.
I am getting better.

Nicole

It's admirable your effort and the work you are putting in! Please keep after it.

While not great at no fault of your own the turn around in a short time is impressive. Like Elliot said if you had good stock with what you now know you would be crushing it.

But still I am impressed with your hard work.

Hey Nicole you done a great job of turning those guys around. I would just keep them in the tank you have now. For the future I would get another tank for your new fish that you are planning on, and please get your discus from one of the many SD sponors here. I can picture those new guys turning out fantastic. Keep it up, you are on the right road of keeping discus fish.

Great Job Nicole, the little guy still has ways to go,but I am sure with your care that will turn around, On the side note @ farebox( Roland) For Nicole to get fish from SimplyDiscus sponsors would be a expensive venture as she is in Australia

Thank you all.
I am going to wait a few months before I start my new tank.
I know I have much to learn and I think I will just go around and look at different places and fish.
I might have a quarantine tank just in case.

Great Job, I know how you feel, I have no show winners either, but I take care of them like they are. Eventually I too will step up with better stock and I know I will be ready for them. Again, great job!

Peter... Good GOD I love your avatar!

Nicole, hang in there. Use this crew to learn a little but definitely ask some sponsors if they know any importers there. They're really great people and will try to guide you if able. I thought SD use to have a sponsor who imported in Aussie land?

That would be Rod Lewis of Fishmania. Rod is no longer importing unfortunately, but is concentrating on breeding.

Australia's import regulations are very strict and about to become stricter as of March. There are also significant costs when importing in to Australia. AQIS (Australian Quarantine Inspection Service) fees, and quarantine fees (All cichlids are quarantined for two weeks upon arrival in Australia, quarantine facilities can be expensive).

If Rod were still importing, I would have no hesitation in recommending his stock.

There is only one store I would recommend in the Brisbane/Gold Coast are, and that is Living Reef Aquarium down the Gold Coast which I have linked to before. They import discus from IP Discus and Martin NG.

I'm rather new but I luv what you're doing. You're giving those fish a great home and more likely than not saved their lives. I don't like the idea that because they're aren't 'quality' they should be put down or replaced. Something you should be aware of tho. If your fish are stunted, you might have issues adding more discus that will get really big. The non-stunted discus could bully your current discus when they out grow them.

Again, what you're doing is fantastic work and your fish are very lucky to have caught your attention.

The aquarium in Coburg

Coburg Aquarium is a different LFS, not the one I recommended in an earlier post on the first page. Don't get me wrong, Coburg is a good aquarium, just not sure if they specialise in discus (I do know they specialise in bettas).

hey Nicole, love what you have done with the discus. May I ask for a brief description of the tips and great advice that helped the great improvement of the fish :)

Good luck. "Rescue" Discus are usually a losing proposition. I would give these away to someone and start with good stock bearing in mind all the basic principles of keeping these fish.

Hey Nicole, check out Aquatico Aquarium (used to be called Sunnyside Aquarium) at Maidstone.

Funny you mention that place, I go there often, just today actually, their stock isn't looking that great right now unless if you're looking for large breeding pairs.

Actually bought 8 discus from there. I was lucky enough to grab stock that just rolled in 2 weeks into QT. Brought them home and quarantined them myself. 30 bucks a pop, healthy looking 2-3 inch fish, was not bad.
