It hasn't even been a week since the fry became free swimming and the parents have laid more eggs. The free swimming fry are still feeding off the parents. How could I test to see if the fry can/will eat powdered flakes?

If you are going to try and raise them on powered flake you might as well just cull them now. They can take and will do well on BBS.

decapsulated brine shrimp eggs also work, but can take awhile for them to take to them. If you are looking to move them away from the parents, which would be wise as IME the parents after laying another batch will eat the current fry, than BBS is probably your only safe bet.

Another option is to remove the eggs that were just laid. Live BBS is really the way to go with fry.

Guess i'll feed the parents a little bit of my homemade food and see if the fry eat. Removing the new eggs won't cause the parents to tear into each other?

At 2-3 days you should have been introducing bbs to the fry.By now they would have been eating it already. And no,wiping the eggs shouldn't cause the parents to tear into each other, but nothing is 100% with discus.

Removing the new eggs won't cause the parents to tear into each other? The only other way of not feeding brine shrimp nauplii which eventually has to be fed as Discus fry as they get older is egg yolk.Rearing Discus fry with egg yolk is not easy chore by all means especially for a beginner, The fry have to feed multiple times a day followed by water changes.Time and commitment come in play.

Okay, how long will they be on live bbs before moving onto flakes and blood worms?

I don't offer either of these things, I move on to ground FDBWs and beefheart, but they should start eating flake pretty quickly. I wouldn't offer blood worms, so I'll render no thoughts there.

When I said bloodworms I mean't frozen like the san Francisco Bay one.

In about four weeks you cut down feeding baby brine shrimps and increase the beef heart mix.

I took their eggs out earlier today and I just found they have laid more eggs... Is it possible they will stop laying eggs if I increase the tds?

Possible, but not likely. They sound pretty determined.

I have to admit and happy to admit when I am wrong about good news such as this. I wasn't a fan of those when you were thinking about buying them. Maybe the pics didn't do them justice. But it's nice to see that you are getting so many eggs and fry!!

Thank you. Do you know what kind of Discus these are? The store said turc, I think, but I had someone else tell me they look like they came from a wild pair.

They seem stunted, how old are they? They seem marginal if they are F1s.

I've used frozen BBS as effectively as the live stuff and have raised large offspring to maturity with this. Others may dispute this but at the time I didn't have the resources, read laziness, to continue raising the BBS in the kitchen of my apartment. The frozen stuff worked out great. I used to freeze the BBS I raised anyway when I had too much.

Is there a particular brand or source that you used of frozen BBS?

I know they're different fish, but i'd mix Hikari first bites with seachem garlic guard into a thick paste then serve to yellow lab fry. They would gorge themselves on it.

Sound great, good thinking. I may try.

Just realized something. The clay pot is 4"-dia. The male is slightly over that length not counting his tail. Female is roughly an inch smaller than the male.

Here you go. Dug this stuff out of the freezer from a few years ago and I finally have a new hatch that will need it in a few days. I think I'll go to store and buy some fresh-frozen BBS, called tonight and they have it9540395404

Usually a good idea to wash all of this in water to get rid of extra salt, RO is a good idea, and squeeze out the extra water while it's still in the fish net though I'm not sure how much of this the manufacturer does.
