Hey all

Just after general opinion for which tanks to use to grow out 6 discus from 2" to fully grow and hopefully get the to pair up.

I have a 55gal tank and 4x 29gal tanks.
From the reading I have done I think I should use the 29gal tank with about 5 feedings a day and daily water changes of around 30% to 50%. Then shift them as they grow to the 55gal and let them pair naturally. Am I correct in what I have read or is there something better I should do. Also what size should I shift them out of the 29gal so as not to stunt them.

Cheers

Personally I prefer a 75 for sub-adults to adults and a 40 breeder for growouts. I think a 55 is a tab small.

agree with Pat but you can definitely do the 55g if that is all you have at your disposal. Better than nothing. I grew out 25 discus in a 75g from 1", so I think it would be safe to put 6x 2" discus in a 55g and grow them out for a while, but they may eventually get too large for it. The problem with the 55g size is that it is so narrow. Doesn't leave you much choice to work with width-wise.

Thanks.

What do you mean by width the tank dimensions are lxwxh 60 x 16 x 16. So a bit over 55gal I think so from Australia so we use cm. I will grow them till they pair and put the pair into about 29gal then while waiting for them to spawn start with another group of 6 of a different type/color and do the same.
I have read it takes about a month to get from 2" to about 4" is this correct?

That seems like a supercharged growth to me :p. Stendker states a growth rate of 0.5 to 1 inch per month. I would say 1 cm is realistic...
Here is the link: http://diskuszucht-stendker.de/plugins_en/pdfs/1.5_Alter_und_Groessee_unserer_Diskusfische_en.pdf

They have put quite a nice "how to" PDF section on their website, is worth reading in to.
