i use 2 - 2217 eheims on my 72 gallon. about 210 gph per filter through the media.

Thanks man. Thats a lot of flow. Doesnt it stir the tank?

JMO, but one Eheim 2217 would be plenty for a 70 gallon tank.

i don't use the spray bars on the eheims, i use the outlet pipes that are used for the ecco filters. i have 2 in case 1 of them breaks. the flow doesn't seem to bother the discus. i have 7 adults.

Cool
Would a fluval 406 be too much for a 70 gal?

The media capacity is more important than flow rate...

Flow rate becomes more important depending on the dimensions of the tank than the gallonage...

You can never have "too much" filter for a tank...

Ok so will the flival 406 be fine? I saw it is 1500l/hr but not sure on media capacity. I guess its ok... the only bigger one is the fx6.

What would the recommended media capacity be?

The 406 would be about right. Decent capacity, not too much current.

Hey guys... i heard about issues with the fluval 406 that it has issues leakage and the impeller etc. Any thoughts?
The two options are the fluval 406 or the sicce whale 500. Which would u guys recommend?

The Sicce Whale filters are my favorite canister with the API XP series being a close second.
I have 4 whale filters of various sizes running on my tanks and LOVE them.

My experience with Fluval AND Marineland canisters has ALL led to leakage... every. single. one. of. them. Over the last 10 or so years... I've probably owned over 30 and they had ALL started leaking at some point.

I just bought a new Fluval 406 for my 110 gal altum angelfish tank. (The tank also has sponge filters.) I had problem with the Fluval until it turned out that the impeller was damaged out of the box. Once I replaced it, I've had no issues. You can't do huge water changes with altum angels, so I need good mechanical filtration.

It doesn't leak, it doesn't make any sound. It just works.
