Hi Guys,
just treated my tank with potassium permanganate and wanted to get peoples opinion on what has happened. Solution was 15g in 1ltr (2ppm) and dosed tank with 26ml in 52 gallon. After 10 minutes colour changed to a honey colour so i put another 26ml in and this lasted for around 20 min. I added another 13ml around 1 hour into dosing and tank turned honey colour after 2 hours or so. I did a 50% wc before and after treament and just wanted to know it changed colour so quick? i cleaned filters last week and its in a bb tank. How long does it take for flukes to die? What would you do in my sitution? So i can finally get rid of flukes for good. Ph is around 7.4, Do i redose the tank in a couple of days? I couldnt keep adding more PP as i was up to 5ppm in the tank?

Cheers Tim

Tim, the PP turns brown from the organics in the water so prior to a PP treatment you want the tank and water as clean as possible.

Hi Pat,
yes i have read that before and I'm doing 70%wc daily and before treatment i did a 50% wc. The tank is in perfect conidtion apart from the flukes. Water is crystal clean with no poo anywhere.

You might clean filters before treatment also.

Are you wiping down the sides and bottom of the tank? Also remove any wood etc.

What Pat said. The PP turning brown is telling you your tank isn't as clean as you think.

dechlorinator in the water can make it turn brown fast.

I keep forgetting to mention that so thanks for bring that up Liz. I am on well water so do not use it. Also age your water for 24 hours prior to use with PP so the dechlorinator does not neutralize the PP.
