Oh, I bought him at 4 inches so he's still a baby to some degree. I guess there are different patterns [some stronger with the red]. He has a yellow orange pattern but he's still extremely pretty.

Keep in mind that a pigeon blood discus will show a lot more "peppering", in other words, the small black dots that you see above, they will become more pronounced in a planted tank.

I'm fine with that. I don't mind the peppering. :D I know some don't like it but I think it adds character. They love the plants. I did discover they are munching down continually on my Water Wisteria. The leaves get shorter and shorter. They also seem to enjoy eating my duckweed.

My checkerboard from Kenny. He has slight peppering due to my dark substrate. He basically has a moustache lol but fins and body are pretty clean
