It's really funny how the stars align sometimes. Booked my flights to Rochester, NY late so in order to get a decent rate had to connect through JFK last Monday instead of flying direct like I usually do. Weather ended up cancelling my flight from JFK to Rochester and I spent an unplanned 24 hours in NYC, a place I never really wanted to travel to. I tried hard for a couple of hours to get to Rochester before giving up and by then all the hotels near JFK were already full. Delta put me up in a Holiday Inn in the financial district which located me just a few blocks south of the WTC, here's a few pictures of my Tuesday morning.

Both this and the first picture were taken using my phones panoramic function. I took this second picture a couple of times, not noticing the American flag above me on the first attempt.

Note where that same American flag is in this later photo. I just find that angle difference etc. neat.

The Perkins in this photo is no relation as far as I know, but with her name being on the corner of the memorial it made for a good picture.

Here is the one person on the memorial that my family does have a connection to. Charles Burlingame was the pilot of the plane that went into the pentagon and my wife's second cousin.

Best cancelled flight I'm sure I'll ever have.

A well spent morning Keith. When family is involved puts a whole different spin on things.

Why the lack of love for NYC??? Lol....

You have never been to the city and had no desire at all? Any particular reasoning ?

Probably the single biggest reason Phil is that I'm fiscally conservative and spending the $'s necessary to spend time in NYC just has never been very appealing to me. I am however interested in history, memorials etc., so Delta Airlines funding my visit to the WTC was perfect.
