Hi All,

I have seen a new product available called Octocil
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Octocil/222199333294?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D37567%26meid%3Dffb31469512a4d8b824b8fb3d6a2 91fc%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D2%26sd%3D2221 66124164

It's supposed to be an alternative to Metro.
Has anyone used it?
Does it work?

Hi I have not used it, but I tend to stay away from medications that contain multiple ingredients. You never know how fish will react. I tried to look up the ingredients but best I could tell is one, N- [3-chloro-4- (4-chlorophenoxy) phenyl] -2-hydroxy-3,5-diiodobenzamide is a Salicylanilide. Probably,Commercially called Rafoxanide. In the USA its approved for Veterinarian uses in some farm animals like Sheep where it treats Flukes (liver Flukes).
"a very efficient flukicide which is also effective against Haemonchus contortus and Oestrus ovis. Available for both oral and injectable administration. There is a good safety margin but poisoning can occur in sheep with heavy doses. There is blindness, with degeneration of the optic nerve, recumbency, polypnea, clonic convulsions and death."

it also seems to work on some Nematodes...http://parasitipedia.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2506&Itemid=277

best always,
al

ps.

One Note, The ebay ad shows a picture of cryptobia implying it treats this. At this point in Time there is no treatment for Cryptobia thats 100% effective. That was discussed at the NADA2016 show by the Fish pathologist that spoke there.
