Going to setup a QT tank soon, I don't have a need for it right now, but want to QT a possible new fish in the future. I know how to cycle a tank, etc. both with fish and non-fish cycling. But my question is, how do you keep the tank cycled when there are no fish in it for long periods of time?
Just add liquid ammonia?

I do not keep my Quarantine tank up and running. I keep extra sponges in my tanks. When I have to set up a Quarantine tank I add the seeded sponge the Quarantine tank if I need to set one up.The tank is sterilized after every use.

+1 .
If you buy and introduce new discus , you can ask the vendor to give you a piece of filter sponge from the same tank that discus come from for instance cycling of your QT.
