I want to get my tank setup and start the cycling which I know may take up to a month. Anything you would change on this? I plan to start with 5 adults

What you've listed will certainly work, I've done very similar over the years. Discus seem to prefer tanks with a depth greater than 12" though, so with that in mind I'd suggest you go with a 75 rather than a 60. They aren't as budget friendly as the setup you're suggesting, but in the long run I'd bet you and your fish will be happier.

If I've just completely blown your budget, you could just as easily use sponge filters and forget about the canister. I use to use canisters, but these days they just sit idle.

Go with as big a tank as you can afford right off the bat.

I second going with a bigger tank if possible. I just swapped out a 55 to a 120. Going up in size is inevitable, and swapping them out is a major pain! If cost is a factor, check out craigslist. I got my 120 and a nice stand for $300.

You may want to add a hydrosponge if you go bigger on the tank.

Make sure you get a pre-filter for the canister intake. An Eheim Vac is also a great tool.

Enjoy!

Like Keith mentioned 75 gallon tank with 6 adults and sponge filters.

I second the suggestions on a 75. It is not a huge tank but comfortable for six or eight discus and the 18 inch depth is a plus.

I thought they liked to swim up, this why I was looking at a taller one.
So this with AquaClear 110 is a better choice. http://goo.gl/dHaXLg

Also, any suggestions on heaters? I can't use the Hydor without the canister
