This is the start of my 75 Gallon discus tank.
Equipment is 75 gallon marine land tank with a marine land double bright LED. Filtration is a Fluval FX6 and 1 sponge filter inside the tank. I'm using 1 circulation pump for agitation at the surface. Heater is a marineland heater. The tank has been up for over a year as a planted tank but I had just removed all the plants and substrate about a month ago. The tank is now bare bottom with just manzanita wood in it. I ordered 6 Stendker discus from Hans and recieved them last Wednesday. I have 2 3" Fire reds and 4 2.5" Alenquers. I also ordered 2 pounds of Hans beef heart mix since that's what they have been used to eating already. I've been feeding cobalt discus flakes as well as NLS discus pellets. They seem to like the Flakes but are not interested as of yet in the NLS pellets. A couple days ago I ordered Freeze dried black worms from aquaticsuppliers. I am doing 50% daily water changes and age my water in a 44 gallon brute container with air stone and heater. I need to get a larger pump however because my maxi jet is just not cutting it haha. I'm hoping to get these guys grown out nice and keep them happy and healthy. I will post some pictures once I figure out how to keep them from showing up upside down.

Bryon attach your pictures and if they are up side down then ask SimplyDiscus staff to correct them and I sure they can do that.

Most of the photos I try to add fail to upload. I don't know why the ones that do are all upside down.

If they fail file size is likely too large. I use a free photo Resizer app on my phone that works nicely

Okay cool thank you. I think I'll email my photos from my phone and upload from my computer.

That tank looks AMAZING. I always like the look of the wood like you did. It is like tree roots entering in the water.

Another option for pictures, will be to upload them free to Photobucket. When you have done it, myself or many others, will teach you how to do the copy and paste of the image from Photobucket. It is very easy.

I have also started the same adventure a month ago. My 75 is Reef Ready so I added a 20 G sump. My thread is on this sub-forum too.

I do have too Hans Discus, but I did a stupid mistake. I got 3 discus from a LFS before learning about the risks of cross contamination. As of today all is good. But I have read I need to wait several months until I am sure they are all safe. So, what is done, is done. In the meantime I am really enjoying the tank.

Again, nice tank !!!!

Yeah I'm very particular about what I'll add as far as stock. I think I'll more than likely just have 6 discus in this tank but may add a small school of rummynose, cardinals or hatchets. I'm lucky cause I have a 55, 20, and 10 gallon set up in my garage for hospital and quarantine tanks that I can keep them in, deworm them and make sure they are healthy for weeks before I add them.

Very smart always always always quarantine. 6 would be right imo. I do have 5 glo tetras and 6 corys along with a few otos

My next tank I'd love to do a large tank with single strain of discus and a large group of cardinals

I'd also recommend a heater controller and possibly a second heater as back up. I was only running one heater but have read so many posts of heater failer.

I am running a fluval e300 and an aqueon pro 150 connected to an inkbird controller

does anyone use an auto feeder on their tank? I'm looking at the Ehiem everyday feeder for the freeze dried black worms and flakes.

Update on the 75 gallon. This fall during hurricane Matthew I lost power for 4 days at my home. I had left a battery back up system on my tank that ended up failing. I was out of town for those 4 days and my discus tank really took a hit. 3 of my 4 Alenquers got sick and stopped eating. I moved them to a quarantine tank and unfortunately over a month each fish died. I however was able to Save one of my 4 Alenquers as well as my 2 fire reds. So as it sits right now my 75 has the three discus with a small school of rummynose and cardinal tetras. The surviving discus are now about 4-4.5" and are anywhere between 9-11 months old. I hope that they can still grow to a decent size even with the stress of what they went through from the storm. I would like to soon put in an order again with discus Hans to replace the 3 that I lost. These guys are still on Hans frozen beefheart mix and today I just received another order of Freeze dried black worms from aquaticsuppliers. This time I have gone with the Bio-pigment plus. I put in a cube this morning and these guys are nuts over it!

That is a shame you lost those fish... sorry to hear :(

Its all part of it I guess. They were all very young too so I know that did not help. The Fire reds have been laying eggs lately so maybe someday I will try to breed them. They are still a little young though so I think I may actually try once they mature a little more.
