Getting to know all the local hotspots Al complements of a couple guys from my local camera club. I have seen birds I have really seen, white pelicans, Reddish herons etc. Having a blast shooting with these guys.

Thanks Matt, this one is pretty straight out of the camera. :)

Very cool, and great title!

Thanks Rick, this bird held that exact position the entire time we were taking it's picture. A form of predator evasion I'm sure. :)

A few other birds from the Viera Wetlands. Not great images but cool birds :)

This hawk was eating it's breakfast in a field next to the wetlands.

This last pic shows a little too much brush strokes for my taste but they look like great subjects.

If you are referring to the slight ghosting about the ducks that is from playing with the contrast. Perhaps a bit better.

I'm really "winging it":) here, but best guess based on Pattern, and what looks like a barred tail is Red Shouldered Hawk.

I think Ken said it was a Harrier Hawk Al, does that sound right?

The white band across the base of the tail might help with iding the bird

Pat,
A male harrier is light grey. A female is brownish, but has more of a light throat and whitish eye stripe than your pic is showing and tend to have more yellow to the bill. It also has finer striations. It could be an immature female. The key identification feature that I am lacking here is not seeing it in flight. Harriers fly with much gliding, and the female has a conspicuous white rump at the base if the tail. ...on its dorsal. Harriers strongly prefer Marshes and large open fields where as (aka marsh hawks) where as red shouldered hawks are your grand habitat opportunist.

However... i could be very wrong here:)

Thanks Stan, it was fairly close and perfectly still. I am learning that shooting "in the field" is a bit different then shooting at one of the gator farms. Distance can really work against you when especially hand held. The 200-500 will help I hope :D

Pat, it would be interesting to see the Bittern cropped as a vertical 4x6.
All the lines run that way and the crop can add to the feeling. I would keep the Bittern to the right.
