View Full Version : Postponed!!!NEDA 2017 meeting **New date May 6**

Doesn't appear to be much activity on the NEDA portion of Simply here. Last post was for a meeting last spring that appears to never have happened so I would like to get a thread started for meeting interest here in 2017; for myself the earlier the better since the closer to summer it gets the busier I get.

The more interest we can muster up the more likely it will happen.

Hi Yom,
We can definitely try getting it going again. I had one scheduled but as you noted, it did not happen because of lack of interest. I dont mind hosting it again.

Anyone interested in attending please shout out here.

Im thinking March 18th or 25th. Does either Date work better or not at all for someone?

March should put us past the winter weather issues and maybe if its warm enough makes my covered deck usuable.. Also motivates me to finish up some projects lol. Fir those that havent been here I am in Northford CT.. Pretty easy drive from surrounding states. As always family are welcome.

Great Thanks! Any girl will do. :gorgeous:

I think I talked my sister into coming with me if AL doesn't mind- just to keep me company on the long drive. It may be a fun road trip with her depending again on the weather. My husband is not much into the whole fish thing.

Anyone know a good hotel near by? Doesn't need to be fancy-just clean.

WE do these as family type get togethers and of course spouses/kids are welcome! Glad to hear that theres such interest. I will man the grill. If folks want to bring something that would be helpful and appreciated. The list.... Just copy the list and add your name if you are planning on attending and want to bring something so we don't have 50 bags of potatoe chips.

Hi all,
We are in the home stretch now Just shy of two weeks away..... still on for March 18Th. Lets start the get together at 2 pm. That gives drivers plenty of time to get here. Those that have been here before know how laid back we are about this.. I'd like to get a firm headcount now if we can. Just so I can plan.

WE usually have a presentation of some sort as well.. If someone wants to volunteer, drop me a pm. If not I can come up with something. Is there any interest in a Photography workshop? Also... I have a decent size flat screen in my living room. Would be cool if anyone wants to bring fish, tank, etc pics or vids on a flash drive and we can play them at the meeting.. Up to you.

If you are watching this thread and thinking about joining. Theres no fee, we call our group the NEDA but its just a name. Have a look here..http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?82812-Northeast-Discus-Meeting-Fall-2010 for an example of what to expect. Sadly I no longer have a fishroom like I did but I am slowly building up. WE do have about 40-50 adult wild and domestic Discus and a tank or two of juvies. scattered through out the house., just starting up pairs again.

Hi Jenene,
I have my eye on that storm system as well! We will have to play it by ear. With so many travelers I would hate to have someone get hurt trying to here. If we need to move it up, thats not a problem.

AS for parking, I have a pretty long gravel driveway. people can easily pull off it and park on the lawn so it should be fine. :)

It looks like this beauty will be gone by Tues. night. But, where I live we are looking at 18-24 inches so the problem
becomes will cities and some towns be able to get rid of it.We can and I suspect Northfield can but it might affect
Towns that other people are coming from.

Also, another storm is forecast for Sat., Sun. So I guess we just have to wait and see.
Hopefully everything will work out.

Guys I am looking at 18-24 " here this storm. And no melting ... its going to be a royal mess. Hopefully we dont lose power . The wind is already whipping here and its just started. Looking forward a wintry mix for Sat as well. :( New England weather is working against us. We have people traveling a good ways. As much as I hate to do this I am postponing our get together. Its not worth the risks or hassels and I have no clue how bad the weather will be this week. I probably should have tried for a latter date knowing this could happen.

I would like to reschedule on May 6. Its not that far away but enough time for people to plan. It also has the added benefit of being warm enough to enjoy my porch and yard....

I know this date change is a bummer but hope you all can accommodate it.

Great News Dale ( well not for the racers!)

Looks like a really good turn out. Be great meeting a bunch of you face to face for the first time... A few seemed to have dropped off the map from the original listing but we will have a great time,.

Last call for attendees Please... I need to make some supply runs this afternoon.

Al,
My wife wants to know if this is outside? Considering the weather this weekend.

Hi Devon,
Looking like about 15-20% chance rain by 2pm. Those are fair odds. I have a decent size covered Deck if it rains. We also have a large open living room and kitchen as well as my old fishroom, the new multi-use game room fish room. I think we should be okay if it rains a little..

I should also let you guys know that we are at the tail end of a head cold here in the house. Two kids in school and it seems like we are always at the tail end of something here. Just throwing this out there in case someone has health issues and can't risk getting sick. Not talking the flu here,it was one of those quick hitters. I think we are past the pass it along stage, but ... Full Disclosure met...LOL

I really enjoyed seeing everyone here yesterday. We had a great time. Many were new to the group so it was perfect to meet and greet. We lucked out on the weather aswell.

Had great food and talk. Even squeezed in a mini photo workshop.

Everyone brought some really tasty food dishes and the chef went a tad overboard on the main course.

A few pics.. Jenene brought these incredible cookies...

Neat! I'm not a big frosting fan. I wonder if you could print that on cheese! I'm otherwise jealous. Wish there were enough folks around my area to get a group together like that.

Al, we just can't thank you enough for your warm welcome and hospitality. You shared your beautiful home, family and way too much food with us. Kyle loved the photo tips and tricks. We loved talking to your great kids and sweet wife. I was worth every minute in the car to get there.

Your fish are stunning. You have definitely turned me on to the wilds. I really hope I don't need another tank now.

Thank you, thank you, here are a few of my pics. Sorry awful cell phone but better than nothing.

There were some nice Discus and Plecos that transfered ownership. I have a nice colony of Bristlenose plecos now thanks to Jeff in Maine. Jeff went home with some Discus from Martha. And I have a set of very beautiful home bred and very clean Pigeons from Ceyhun (Jay)/Winnies Discus, that I will be growing out a bit here. I will post some pics of them after they settle in a bit.

It was a really nice time fro sure. If you are from the area you should join us some time.
