Not to shabby I'd say. At 400mm on tripod in the backyard, no tracking mount or anything. Makes me want to get a teleconverter now, and can't wait until full moon. I might of sharpened a bit to much? I think I nailed the focus though. At 400mm using Live View 10x makes focusing SO much easier.

Nice shot. If you haven't already, might crop a bit more. Does not look over sharpened to me. Try taking a brush and add just a bit of contrast to the moon surface.

Thanks, what you are seeing now is a 100% crop from the original. I wasn't sure about taking more of the black out. I did think about the contrast and was planning on going back and seeing what it would look like.

Very nice pic Matt. I'd probably crop in just a little as well

From a purely inexperienced view, this is fantastic!

Thanks!!

Problem with cropping more is resolution starts dropping and my image becomes smaller and smaller. The moon ain't getting any closer or larger, all I'd do is shrink the photo. I'm sitting at a random 1967x1311 now, lower is no bueno IMO. I think the best solution is to say screw crops and just get a larger lens!! :D I wish.

I like it Matt, Very nice shot as is. Is it something you were able to take from the yard. I've tried here many times but theres too many trees and my house is set in a ditch, One of these days I will go over to the farm across the street and try a few shots... when it warms up!

Thanks Al, it's straight from the backyard. We basically have a window surrounded by trees to look up through. So if it's in that open window I can get it, have to time it right if shooting from home though. See images below I took previously, this is what front/backyard look like as far as the sky.

Nice shot Matt. I am wanting to try a similar shot as the moon is setting over the lake.
