This pair of eagles has a nest at the back of a cemetery near downtown Orlando. They have at least one chick. I was told there had been two but only saw/heard one. Not a great angle in the photos but best I could do given the angle of the sun and placement of the trees. Hope to visit several times this summer and document the raising of this eagle chick.

Mom on guard duty.

Dad taking off after delivering a fish. I was not quick enough to catch the fly-in.

Mom finally coming in to feed the chick after delivery of the fish by dad. Traditional couple; dad provides and mom serves dinner lol.

cute. I watched the youtube documentary of the pair of eagles in Pennsylvania last year of the eagle pair raising their young eaglets in the nest. Some one had placed a camera right over the nest and documented the whole thing from eggs to eaglets leaving the nest. One time it snowed like a ton, and the mom never budged over her young, she stood up once to shake the snow offer bc it had gotten so deep only her head was poking out, but then she nestled right back down on her babies. One day the dad brought a cat back for them to eat, the internet got all in a frenzy over it bc it may have been someone's pet. Dang nature, you scary.

Great shots Pat birds of prey are so interesting. Currently at my home I have a red tailed hawk pair raising their three youngins'. we've watched the pair teach the young how to fly and how to hunt, and just last weekend the whole family was out flying around hunting field mice over our pastures as we were outside moving hay. They put their nest right in the crook of a tree behind our barn so we see and hear them often, and collect their tail wings that they molt and we find laying on the ground. Unfortunately my parents (who live across the street) have had a cat go missing recently so I'm not sure if the hawks will get to stay around for another year. This is the second year they have raised young in the same spot (I am assuming its the same pair but not sure at all.)

That is so cool Jacklyn :) I had a pair of cooper hawks nest behind my barn a couple years in a row. It was a really treat watching the parents raise the babies. It was pretty common to walk down the driveway and have six hawks perched on the fence line. You might consider doing a search on whether red-tailed hawks are large enough to carry a cat. Also here in Florida it is illegal to have hawk/eagle feathers in your possession so I could not keep any feathers I found along the fence line. :(

Red tailed hawks can take small cats and kittens... They routinely hit squirrels and rabbits.

yes unfortunately this is the case. Around my house we have coyotes also, so my parents don't know what happened to their MIA cat.
