Hi Ed, that is a super nice "test" shot. :) Is that a golden eagle? What camera did you use?

Beautiful photography Ed. What type of eagle is that? Are we sure its an eagle and not a hawk? Birds are really beautiful creatures.

Great capture!! Wish I could see that from my porch.

I would comfortably say that is a eagle. And a juvenile Bald Eagle at that. Looks to be in the late 2nd to 3rd year (maybe even late 3rd). About a year out from being the typical bald eagle prototype you see. Just from previous research and talking to people who photo eagles a good bit of course, I am no true bird expert. Maybe Al could weigh in. Golden's won't show that much scattered white underside or in the wing pits, they have larger white patches towards the outer section of the wing with maybe a stripe running towards the body.

Wow! You should send this photo on a contest! Beautiful bird, indeed.

I used a canon SR1 with a 24-105 lens. We have an active bald eagle nest within sight of our screened in porch on our farm. This is an immature year old bird maybe last years offspring (they raised 2 last year) that tried to come back to the nest this Feb. The parents chased it away...I do have a nice shot of one of the mature parents.
