Finally got a decent picture of a Crown Night Heron. Generally they are half way in a bush. This is from a trip to Gatorland this morning.

Nice night heron Pat! They are a hard one...usually spent the day as you say ....half hidden. They are one of the easier herons to approach slowly...not as flighty as others.

Their first year juveniles are cool birds too... they look nothing like the adults.

Thanks Al, I have seen pictures as juvies and you are right. Nothing like the adults. I ran into this guy in Ft. Myers. I just discovered this is a Yellow-Crown Night Heron.

Pat wasn't there a young one when you were at the Alligator farm?
Love the Night Herons. There is a large colony at the National Zoo in DC, every spring, but I have never photographed them!

I remember that Stan :). It is amazing the difference between the juvenile and adult versions. Of course this is true with so many birds. :)
