Hi I am getting ready to step into the discus world, as of now I am trying to gather all the information that I can before I start as I want to be a good Discus mommy this forum has been super helpful. I have had a freshwater tank set up for about 15 years and have always ran aquarium salt in my tanks. Can anyone tell me if Discus are okay with salt? Thank you in advance.

Personally I only use salt when it is a part of treatment, not as a standard additive to the water

Yup. No need to add salt to any freshwater tank unless it's part of a treatment.

Hi Kbunch and welcome to Simply discus .
We usually use salt only as a treatment for some illness or condition and I personally always use the cheapest rock salt or just a regular kitchen salt for that matter .
And yes discus can be very tolerant to salt baths since some of the most extreme saltbaths we perform can go up to 1 TBSP (15 grams) per gallon of water .
