Holy moly, I am surprised it could fly with that fish. Was it able to swallow the fish Al? I take it not based on the title.

Pat, I'm afraid he left that to our imagination. I took these shots from the cover of my car in a parking lot. All was good until another car pulled in and off he flew... I 'm amazed it could carry it!

They are amazing but skittish birds Al. Trying to capture them in flight is near impossible.

It's amazing it maneuvered the fish from holding it near the tail to swallowing it head first without dropping it.

It's a flammable sequence. Just think about how good it would look hung on a wall.

Nice series. I have a friend on a photography forum that all he specializes in is KF's. Cool shots

Thanks Guys...

Ricardo, we only have one species in CT and they are not that common. You see them here and there, I lucked out for sure.

The fish in its bill is actually being identified by the State Dept Environmental P. Its likely a alien in CT. My first guess was a snakehead but after looking it up on the web, it looks like a Bowfin... not as bad as a snakehead... but a non native. And it really should not have been in that water system at all.

Sorry to hear that Al, I can identify coming from the home of invasive species. :(

I wanna see some of him catching the fish in the water next Al!! ;) Great shots, the fish is as big as the bird!! Used to have some KF hang around our farm pond, wonder if they are still around. I haven't been out there in some time, not to spend any real time at least. Maybe this summer.

I don't think it's a Bowfin, tail is wrong for a Bowfin. They usually have a rounded tail. I don't think it's snout looks long enough to be some sort of Pickerel/Pike/etc but it could be the angle.....possibly some type of Juvi trout? Interested to see what the experts come back with.
