Just curious...Is this also a mechanical filter? Will it clean particles from the water column?I like filters that do both.

I have a TMC 1000 on my 220 gal, and will be running the 1500 on 2 other tanks in the works. Runs fine, it's powered by a canister rated at 500 gph, on 2/3 opened. One of the 1500 is on my qt tank powered by the same filter, running almost fully open.

They are purely biological

They are also good for an effective chemical filtration, filled with purigen, carbon , nitrate and phosphate removers or similar chemical filter beds.
I just could never understand their high prices on the market since they are only a transparent PVC cylinder tubes without any motors or other power devices on them .

Now I see how they work.

Wouldn't it even better if you put Purigen in instead of sand?
