I really am not great with people shots, actually prefer Nature and structures, they are easier to talk to.:)

I do make exceptions and recently was asked by my son to do a head shot as part of his drama class assignment. He is a terrible model...smiling is a foreign function unless its a full blown goof off laugh. If he does smile he looks like he is in pain. I knew a formal setting would not work and would be boring as well. I opted for a candid shot. Try to catch him at ease and off guard...but it still had to look like a decent head shot. The result was not too shabby. His teacher loved the shot and showed it to the class so I guess it was acceptable. He liked it too. Kind of has a bad boy look to him. I do wish I could have coaxed a tad bit more smile, but oh well. Sometimes you just got to take what your subject gives you.

That is an excellent shot Al! I said that when I opened the thread before I even read the post! Lighting seems perfect, and I like the expression for being a candid.

I too prefer nature, people can give you what they want candid or not, nature never fakes it lol.

Well exposed shot but he has the expression of a child that has a photographer as a parent lmao

The reflection of the trees (?) in the background is cool. Of course your son is looking good too.
