Am starting a new discus tank
What is the danger zone on ammonia in
The tank?

There should be no ammonia in the tank. If the tank isn't cycled, you have to do daily 100% water changes and go heavy on the Prime until it becomes cycled.

Even if I do 100% water changes isn't there still going to be a little bit

Yes, but this will be detoxed by the Prime. It is not ideal because if you miss a WC things could start going bad quickly, but as long as you keep up on the water changes you should be ok. Many keepers have done this when their tanks have lost the cycle without issue.

So even 0.25 could be fatal to the discus?
And thanks for your help.

No, but it could stress discus to the point that they become susceptible to a secondary infection. Discus are pretty hardy as long as they have clean water, but if the water parameters are poor, they become more prone to disease than other aquarium fish.

+1

Daily large wc then a dose or prime should detoxify ammonia and nitrite until your next wc

You can also try products like stability to speed up the process. I've had good results with stability

OP, what is your pH? Ammonia is much more toxic at higher pH as well.

My ph is 7.2 right now.
Temperature is 86 does that affect in any way?

Temp will not affect ammonia, but your pH will help guard against it's toxicity. Still, going with the 100% daily WC and adding Prime will be the best way to go.

Thank you I really appreciated.

To get technical, the lower the pH, the more H+ (hydrogen ions) available. NH3 (ammonia) is toxic to fish, but NH4 (ammonium) is not. The lower the pH environment, the more available H+ ions are naturally available to convert NH3 to NH4. This is also how Prime detoxes NH3, by converting it to NH4.
