Several months ago Uncle Sam's Discus brought in a 2nd shipment of adult Alenquer F1's. As soon as I saw the first face book post I emailed Darwin and told him to put me down for another male and female. He emailed back and said they were all female. I went ahead and got 2 females. Around the same time I purchased a couple of Nhamunda Blue Face heckles and Cuipeua from John (Snookn21). About the same time Mark (Discus Origins) posted a couple of casual line Cuipeua Royals. I bought both of them. I only knew the sex of the 2 Alenquer F1's (female) so I put them both in with 1 blue faced heckle, the 2 Cuipeua Royals and 1 Cuipeua solid hoping that they were males and I might get pairs with the Alenquer's. It didn't take long for one of the Alenquer to appear to pair off with the Nhamunda. Then the Cuipeua solid appeared to pair off with one of the Cuipeua Royals which left the other Alenquer F1 with the other Cuipeua Royal. I put each pair in 40 breeders.

The Alenquer F1 with the Nhamunda has been acting like she wanted to spawn for about a week now. Today she finally did and the Nhamunda appears to fertilize the eggs. Time will tell.......

What should we see come from this pairing do you think Larry? Will you get a mix of heckles and alenquer or will it just be a blend of both?

If one parent is wild, the offspring is F1 again, no matter how many generations the other parent has been bred

Well it took 4 spawns. The first three spawns had no fertilized eggs. Just checked and there are wigglers in the 4th spawn. Looks to be a small batch, maybe 25 or so, but they are now proven. Really looking forward to working with this pair.

I have to disagree with this statement. It is my belief that F1 is only used when both parents are wild. It shows the fish being one generation away from wild and that isn't what you have with wc x F1. I have seen people use F1.5 but I don't believe that is really technically correct either. I would probably just show the off spring as wc x F1.

I believe that they will be primarily Alenquer looking discus but I hope that a percentage of them will show the heckle bar.

I will definitely post updates but first they have to go free swimming and attach.

Well 3 1/2 months after they first paired off and 6 weeks after the first wigglers, that were eaten, they finally have their first successful spawn. One thing I can tell you is if you want to work with wilds or F1's a great deal more patience is needed than with domestics.

congrats Larry. I've been watching this thread closely. i feel you on the patience comment. I'm currently on my 6th spawn with my wild caught green tefes, made it to wrigglers but no free swimming yet.

Congratulations Larry and glad they worked out for you. Both parents are gorgeous as will the offspring once they fill out.
