Guess it's about time I post a video of the new fish house. The building is 12x32 with a 8x10 addition for utilities. 33 tanks total. Twelve 20 high, two 29, ten 40 breeders, eight 75's and one 125 for a total of 1425 gallons.

Thanks everyone.

Ralph, I'll tell you the secret. Don't let it get so big that it isn't a hobby anymore. Could I use a bigger building with more tanks. I could absolutely fill up a lot more. But then it takes more time and becomes a job. As it is, I spend about 1 hour siphoning and doing water changes. I can pretty much do the entire room in that amount of time. It is another 1/2 hour to re-fill the storage totes. That is just right.

Nice job Larry! I have to say, after seeing your video, I started doubting I'd ever be able to keep up with such a set-up, if i ever get to build anything close. You last post hits the mark though, if you do it right it's more efficient than what i'm doing now, but still don't let it get bigger than you can manage.

Very impressive set up and collection of fish.
I noticed you still run heaters in your tanks. Is that for back up in case your climate control doesn't keep up?
Thanks for sharing.

The house is heated with a window unit heat pump so it cools and heats. I keep the room at around 78. Any warmer and it is just too uncomfortable to enjoy. I'm a very hot natured person. Heck, I seep with a fan during the winter. Along with that I keep apistos and 82 is too warm for them. The sex of apisto offspring are affected by the water temp. Too warm and you will get a heavy concentration of males. Too cool and you will get a heavy concentration of females. With the room at 78 the tanks will stay around 76 so I still need heaters in the tanks.

Retirement is about 2 - 3 years away and you've inspired me. I really envy those 325 gal water storage containers. You pretty much have to be build the fish house around them.

Agreed, would love to have a fish room. For the time being, my 120g with 40g sump will have to do.

Lol, I did just that. The 12x16 building was used. The previous owners had cut the back wall and made the cut pieces into two barn doors. Not a good job. That is why I got a good price on it. I took the doors off. put the totes in the room and then built the 8x10 room onto that end. Then just slid the totes in. In my last house I had double doors so they fit in the basement. Chad bought one of the 220 gallon ones and the guy he bought it from told him how to cut the aluminum frame and then put it back together once it was in the house. Worked great for him.

I’m mesmerized by your fish and fish house. Can you do another tour please so I can gawk at them a little longer? My mind can’t comprehend how the water is changed in an hour, but I know it’d be like having Steve Hawkings explain string theory to a 3 year old...I can’t even figure out how you clean those water storage containers. This is like the Graceland of fish mansions. Where on Earth do you guys learn how to do this? Truly mesmerized.
