Okay Cat lovers, stand up and be counted! Lets see those fuzz ball cats so dear to your hearts. Admit it, the little fur balls have you wrapped around their paws. We haven't had a cat pic thread in ages, and its about time we fixed that. I'll start off with my newest family member Dante, who will be 1 year old in a few weeks. He's my shadow and if I were a sorcerer(which unfortunately I'm Not) he'd be my familiar, demon child that he is.:)

I was playing with a new lens and this is a "somewhat" artistic image of Blaze. Blaze showed up in the front pasture needing a home six years ago. He is an outside cat due to Tom being allergic to cats but he needed a home and he picked us. :D

Al, I know you are a true cat lover when you’ve met Pearl, been swiped at by her through the rungs of a chair and still find a soft spot for her. The kids... not so much. When I call them on their phones I do not appear as “mom” but as “The Dragon Keeper.” I guess I can’t really blame Pearl for her bad “cattitude” after revisiting this photo where Lily is the obvious instigator. This goes on day and night to the point I have to put all the rugs back in place several times a day. Rag Dolls are supposed to be the calmest, most family friendly cats. To this day I have no idea what went so very wrong.... with the sideways photo too.. very wrong.

Unfortunately, Gunner is a complete Momma's boy...he is a great dog..but the outdoorsy stuff is not his "cup of tea"...he wont even do his business if there's a little bit of moisture on the grass (we've tried to get him to swim before, but he can't  He acts more like a cat than a dog...and yes, he is very much a velcro dog (Luckly he's not attached to my hip all the time, but rather my fiance). Lambeau, my brittany, is the outdoorsman...and my best bud to boot. He loves getting dirty in the woods (Like in the photo), loves to swim for hours, I take him on all kinds of adventures...we just went kayaking over the weekend.

Beautiful boy!
Black cats are special- as I'm sure you know: smart, dog-like, people-orientated, affectionate.
After learning at the SPCA that black cats are the least likely to get adopted ( yeah, that superstitious notion still holds sway in our consciousness despite...) I will only adopt black cats in future.

Thank you Al. :)
The story of Whiskers broke my heart! Ahhh... Im dying here. :(
I know, cats...they do burrow themselves deep within our hearts.
The head butt!!... Seriously, this must be a Black cat thing... Notte does it too and none of the other cats I have had have done this as frequently. But, Notte doesn't do it to everyone- only to my husband.
Every day when my husband gets home from work he gets out his laptop to read the news and Notte crawls up on his chest and butts him with his head, chirps ( yes, it is a sound only he makes) at him and falls asleep blissfully.
It is just too much.

Black cats do seem to be very vocal and expressive. Dante is a Flopper. He comes up to my wife or I while we are standing does a circle around us in typical cat rub speak... and then literally flops down on our feet, rolls and looks at and chirps also! I have never had so vocal a cat. Whiskers was vocal too...but I swear Dante holds a conversation.... and he scolds me . I kid you not.

I read a craigslist ad called "A Cat's Prayer" I know I have seen it before but thought I'd Share it. ...

116132

Dear God, please send me somebody who'll care!

I'm so tired of running and sick with despair.

My body is aching and filled with such pain;...

And dear God I pray, as I run in the rain

That someone will love me and give me a home,

A warm cozy bed, and food of my own.

My last owner left me alone in the yard...

I watched as they moved, and God that was hard.

So I waited a while, then went on my way

To rummage in garbage and live as a stray.

But now, God, I'm so tired and hungry and cold;

And I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old.

They've chased me with sticks and hit me with straps

While I run the streets just looking for scraps!

I'm not really bad, God, please help if you can,

For I have become just a "Victim of Man!"

I'm wormy, dear God, and I'm ridden with fleas;

And all that I want is an Owner to please!

If you find one for me, God, I'll try to be good.

I won't scratch the carpet; I'll do as I should.

I'll love them, play with them, and try to obey.

I will be so grateful if they'll let me stay!

I don't think I'll make it too long on my own,

'Cause I'm getting weak and I'm so all alone.

Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry,

'Cause I'm so afraid, God, that I'm gonna die.

I've got so much love and devotion to give

That I should be given a new chance to Live!

So dear God, please hear me, please answer my prayer,

And send me somebody who will REALLY care.

Cats do the darndest things.. my cat Dante loves catching mice.... to the point where he will raid mouse traps if he hears one snap. He will take the trap and the mouse away for a snack.I imagine its like us dining on salmon served on a cedar plank. Anyhow Its the only time he will ever growl at us...the instinct is strong in this one. I caught him hiding in the bathroom with mouse and trap. actually it was part mouse and trap. If this was Forensics files the bathroom would have lit up with luminol. :)

He was not happy with me at all when I intervened.... a short while latter this was the scene I was greeted with when I went to apologize and explain my over protective parenting...

Ha ha Al! That’s hilarious. I know some cats hold long grudges... you’ve met Pearl up close and personal. My kids have me listed in their phones as Pearl’s dragon keeper instead of “mom”. All I ever did was go on a short vacation.. without her. She’s never been the same. She used to be nice. Now she instills fear in every human that darkens her path. I’m thinking Dante won’t be quite the drama queen. He put on a good show though didn’t he?

I like cats like that. I only have one cat. She had been bottle raised and I the owner had decided that it was time they went to new homes. I told her that I didn't care which one she gave me so she gave me the one that she thought was the ugliest. She was a calico tabby. I could tell that even though her hair was growing long in some places and was short and slick in others. I didn't find it all that ugly because I knew that it was just baby hair. I named her Xena because she was so tiny and with a house full of dogs she would have to be strong.

I kept her in the office for a week or two. Then I let her out when I was able to keep an eye on her. She walked among dogs with impunity. I finally let her out for good when I was pretty sure that none of my dogs would mess with her.

Xena mostly keeps to herself outside during the day. Her food is in the fish room. At night she spends part of the night on the bed with me and 6 dogs, and the other part hunting. The other morning I woke up to the bottom part of a mouse with it's abdomen exposed and it's rear legs standing straight up. I guess she got full after eating the head and upper body of the mouse.

I only adopt black cats now as they are the least likely to get adopted at shelters and, for me, one of the most "dog-like" of all cats. Extremely intelligent and interactive.

Too cute Al :D As you know I lost Blaze, my older cat earlier this year and adopted a two cat (mom and daughter) pair, Musha and Nola. Now they are barn cats as Tom is super allergic to cats. They both have their claws and have five acres to roam. I never realized how much fun two cats can be. They stalk everything, each other, the dog, grasshoppers, even the wild turkeys who will slowly walk up on them too look. Of course the cats will back away. They are full of antics and I really enjoy them and they follow me everywhere.

Please tell me this has happened to someone else too? I could not believe my eyes lol

My cat is almost 15 years old in her defence... This happened yesterday!

After the video stopped that wild mouse jumped down and ran behind my cats back lol.. I screamed, then the mouse jumped into my dogs toy box, I grabbed the toy box and threw it outside at the speed of light!

I am glad I caught this much on video, no one would have believed me haha

That is Hillarious! In her defense, 16 is pretty old for a cat and her hearing probably isnt what it used to be . We have 3 cats.. the oldest is Violet. She is 16 like yours.. Im fairly sure that unless that mouse passed with in an easy stretch she would not move. When she was younger it was different. She was always an inside cat but avidly watched the birds from windows. One day a wren was singing on our porch railing. We were outside as well. My son openned the screen door to join us. In a flash violet darted out, pounced on the bird, ran back into the house and down to a hiding spot in the basement. I kid you not it happened so fast we were dumb founded.

Had Dante or leo seen that mouse on the couch every object in the way would be knocked over to get to that mouse.. taking the mouse away is the only time these two furballs would growl. Nothing gets between then and mice.

Awe cute kitty! I have always heard that Sphinx Cats were on the difficult side to care for. Prone to to skin issues, health issues and needing frequent baths. Theres also temperature regulation I think. Its alot of work to care for a sphinx! Is she as social as they say sphinx are and a talker? My Boy Dante is the most vocal cat I have ever had and a royal luv bug purr machine.. leo,our orange tabby is the friendliest cat even with strangers but he literally never purrs except if he is nursing/kneeding mode...then he softly purrs.

He is ridiculously friendly. He’s sweet with the kids and hasn’t hissed once at anything. I don’t think he has a mean bone in his body.

They definitely smell weird, need frequent baths and nail trims, as well as ear and eye cleaning. They also have bad teeth, especially for a cat. We wanted a cat who would be smaller than our current kitty and very laid back and gregarious, and he’s definitely all of those things. My partner and I agreed that if we ever got another cat, we’d definitely want another sphynx!

Sadly we found out yesterday at his first vet appointment that he has a heart murmur, so he is going in for an ECG Tuesday to assess if it’s safe to put him under for his neuter and dental cleaning. We are very hopeful that it’s just a murmur and not HCM, which is one of the genetic issues these cats are prone to. He was owned by someone who had imported him from Ukraine with the intent to breed him, but ended up deciding to retire from breeding to focus on her family. His parents were screened for HCM and are both negative, but I haven’t received copies of their testing yet so that’s all hearsay as far as I am concerned.

If anyone reads this and wants a sphynx, please go through a reputable breeder and understand there will likely be a wait list - most of the ones here have a two year or more wait for kittens. We knew getting an older guy from a breeder who probably shouldn’t be breeding (he should have been screened for heart issues at his first year appointment, and every year after, and he really needed dental cleaning) and knew he would likely have health issues. Don’t take that risk if you aren’t prepared for the consequences.

Oh, and his name is Oscar! My kids won’t let me name him Salmonella (he looks like raw chicken to me)! Keep your fingers and toes crossed for this guy. He really needs to be able to be put under for the neuter and dental - his teeth are bordering on needing extractions, and no amount of tooth brushing now can fix that. To be fair to his previous family, sometimes even brushing can’t fix genetics; he may have just inherited bad teeth. We also obviously would like to neuter to prevent certain types of cancers and make his litter box smell less unpleasant, haha.

He has a heated cat bed he adores and we have been trying to find good sweaters that are tiny enough for him- he’s too small even for the extra small sizes!

Oscar would love to play with her but Noodle is not yet sure about him (or if he’s even a cat) and will come down to sniff, hiss, and promptly run back upstairs!

Oh boy, someone discovered the fish!

The fish are probably safe. Wait until they discover the fish FOOD right there at perfect eating height. :D
I've had to put my foods in a 5 gallon bucket and hang them from the ceiling because my cat got the lid off of freeze dried brine shrimp and ate the whole thing. He has always been good at opening things if it's a bag he chews it open. If it's a plastic jar he pries it open with his teeth (which are in horrible shape... he's getting pretty old (17) and has always had bad teeth, but not in bad enough shape to stop him). He must have liked it because he knocked everything off of all the shelves twice a day and tanks for four or five days in a row and I finally lost my mind. So now my food is up in a bear bag, basically. It's a pain. He's eaten a TON of bagged fish food too. It's my fault for leaving it out, but he has become a bigger and bigger pain the older he gets haha. He still behaves like a kitten and has lost nothing from a physical standpoint. Before I switched him to raw food he at least had a patella dislocation/displacement issue that would slow him down, but he hasn't even had an issue with that for about 3 years of raw diet. Stinker.

These are old pictures, but these cats have aged gracefully.

Pounce, head troublemaker:
138146

Duncan, expert hider and recluse:
138147

Pounce is 17 and Duncan is about 16.
When we last moved Duncan delayed our moving by an entire day. He has ALWAYS been nervous of people, even "his people". We got him as a kitten, so I don't understand why, but any sudden movement or anything sends him flying and since our cats are still 4-wheel-drive he's torn me up several times when someone sneezes or knocks on the door. Anyway, when we moved the company I was going to work for paid to relocate us so we had packers in the house for a couple of days. And it was kind of an all day, really invasive thing so he really holed up. We hadn't seen him for two days and had packed the car, beds, etc because we had already spent our last night. There was literally nothing left in the house. Not a chair, not a TV, nothing. The day keeps ticking on and we can't find him, can't find him. Tried baiting him... nothing we spent hours trying to find him or trick him into at least meowing (he is VERY vocal). Finally, we pull the plug. I ran to Walmart to get a frozen pizza and an air mattress. We eat and get ready to go to bed I do one more pass in the basement and as I'm walking out of the laundry room where their litter boxes were and I felt like something was watching me. Duncan was up in the floor joists. I scratched the air like I was going to pet him, which usually made him come over and he went jumping through, jumped down into another room and than ran up and squeezed into a small space where the fireplace insert met the wall (on the back side) and then he could get onto the top of the false ceiling the covered 3/4 of the basement. So I could poke me head in and see him and he had an entirely different liar up there. Including some cat toys that had disappeared. It was a waiting game he eventually came out and I had to run in and cover that spot and we ended up catching him later that night and locking him in the room with us until morning.

Very cute Kitties, and great story!

My cat Leo is a holy terror with anything Plastic... he chews it up.. and I have yet to find a plastic lid he could not get off a food container. His bro Dante though takes the cake. We have a storeroom here where I Keep his Dry food which to him is like Crack. If I forget to close that door, hes in like a flash and tears the bag open. I woke one morning and the cats were no where to be found.I knew that meant trouble as they don't miss morning chow...walked in my storeroom and it was a cat food massacre ..two 6lb bags chewed open and spread all over the place. Kitties were sleeping off the party.

Pounce is the same way with plastic. I noticed a similar issue years ago, he had torn into a brand new bag of expensive-ish dog food (Orijen) in the closet. And what tipped me off if he wasn't eating as much of his normal food. He had torn into it on the back side so you couldn't really see it. One day I caught him, he'd crawl all the way into the bag and just sit there on his hoard. It was a 40 pound bag and I bet he ate at least a third of it.

Holy crap! Noodle is like that, very nervous. Oscar OTOH is the most laid back cat I’ve ever had. He sleeps most of the day, and just wants to be in someone’s lap.

Both of the cats have tried to eat the fish food, lol! Al’s discus chow is in the fridge but there’s a bag of blackworms in the fish supplies basket on the tank stand, and one time I left it out and it got nibbled on. The Hikari discus pellets were destroyed by the cats, and the Hikari Micro vibra bites were also nearly eaten! Never a dull moment for sure.

Its a bit funny Pat.. he likes playing with anything that rolls or moves but he doesn't like the citris smell. Cats have good sense of smell in general but Leo is a blood hound in a cats body. Everytime his claws touch the tangerine it releases citrus odor so its definitely challenging and dangerous prey.

I guess that's what happens when you have glass lids and your cat always jumps on top of the tank when the lid is closed. My kitten likes to jump on top of the 32 gallon breeder that's why I make sure it's always closed. With glass they cant tell the difference until is to late.
