Hi all, I have some pigeon blood discus ( white faced yellows, but fish are are orange now), but have noticed large white patches around the bottom and some fish and showing just before the dorsel fin. These patches are rather larger (1/4 inch to 1/3 inch in size.I was wondering if this is a pigment thing that is going on. The fish are totally normal, no problems what so ever. They are just over a year old and have grown nicely on beefheart and treats since I've had them at 2-3 inchers. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks

As I say, mostly around the bottom of the fish. Only a couple out of 8 showing this. Shows up alot more when viewing under actinic lights. Have only noticed this in the last 2 weeks or so. Most fish showing nothing. I keep the tank at 86 degrees and do 50% water changes every 2-3 days.

There is an icon in the posting window, third from the right on the top bar, that brings up the selection window. If it's on your computer, select "choose file." Once you've selected/opened it, click "upload files." Ihaven't tried to do it directly from my phone, I always download them to my computer first. File must be 2MB max.

Not around the head or eyes at all, just the bottom of the fish and some spotting on top of the fish.

That sounds like they’re shedding their slime coat.

Never mind, that might just be some normal spotting forming.

Looks like shedding their coat really. What is the cause of this?

Yes that would be great if that is indeed the cae. I just find it weird. As I say they are none the worse for wear at all.

I see they are a year old. Can you post a picture showing the side of the fish. Just want to make sure this is normal.

The camera is brutal, the one on the left has the spotting and the others have none.

Some PB's have a way of changing color over time.

Just seems to me like a pigment change or something.

Ah, I think i get it. Like Mervin said, if you are talking about the white spots along the bottom and possibly fore head of the fish, these are common to many discus, and them being white is the PB version. Some patterned PB's won't start showing their pattern until they are a year old or so. I think, like many animals, the young's coloration is not necessarily what you'll get in the adults. At least it doesn't look like they have much peppering

Mouth looks weird in that pic but perfectly normal. No very little peppering , these were juvies I picked up from a local hobbyist that bred "white faced yellows". In the meantime the parents were pretty much orange as well as the juveniles I bought from him.(only purchased some juvies). They have been doing great and are a nice size. This I found to be odd with the fish. I am thankful for this site, and ty for all the input on this. I guess it's nothing to worry about.

Just a quick side by side, the peppering is not bad at all. Thank you everyone for putting my mind at ease. I will post a tank shot as soon as I have access to a better camera....which will be soon I am sure.
