Just wanted to put a pic up of my 90 gallon water change. There are eight "white faced yellows" (orange lol) . I have been thinking of strictly wood but haven't gone there yet. 116968

Completed. Takes about 45 minutes at 70% change. Sorry for horrible color in the pics.

Removed angelfish tonight that was definitely trying to be the boss. Can't have that !!!!! Lovely fish and thought it may work ( trying to keep that angel) but the last few days was a sign he had to go.

116970Long story on this one angel but it's too bad. Off to the store tomorrow. Will be ok tonight in my granddaughters tank with pineapple house and sponge bob.

Nice tank-looks like it’d be a bear to keep clean. How often do you do wc? Your angelfish sounds like some chihuahuas that think they are big dogs. Ha was he getting territorial or picking on the discus? What other fish have you got in there? Are those rams? Your tank looks very nice. I tried sand after mine were grown, but ended up tossing it after dealing with a sick discus. Kudos to you for spending the time and a having a beautiful tank to show for it.

Thank you for kind words. I am a bit embarressed with the tank and pics. I was bare bottom with them for months and they have grown quite nicely. At least fellow hobbyists think so.Water changes were daily at 75% in a 40 breeder.(2-3 inchers) I moved them to the 90 at around 9 months with very little substrate a a few upright pieces of driftwood. I can go on and on .In the meantime I do 50-75% waterchanges every 2-3 days depending on mood. But never past three days.I decided to go plants a few months ago, and am always thinking to remove them and completely concentrate on the fish and growing them to potential.
Anyway the substratye is a combination of silica sand and natural gravel (brownish) and all has been going great. I have never had an issue with their health. They eat 95%beefheart mix with supplements of frozen blood worms, spirulina brine and flakes. I am considering a 155 bowfront that may be available from a fish buddy ( close but not quite ther lol). Waiting on him. I hope to get better pics up or videos up soon. Thanks again.

Oh and the angel was being too aggressive for my liking. Some discus were quite shy of him.Kept a close eye, but 2 weeks in removed it tonight.

They are not show quality but I did get them on the cheap at $10 each and was determined to do it right. I am pleased with the results thus far.
Jeepers, I have 7 electric blue acara in there. They are a project.

Nice tank and discus Megatrev .
If they are 9 months old they still got some time left to grow .
There is too much activity all around your tank bottom IMO. Try to at least sort the plants and stones in a manner that would leave an open area for feeding .
Please send some better Macro shots of your discus for us to get a better picture about them .

Wow , I thought they were orange until this last photos of them :) . I like the black tailfin as a contrast to their yellow colours .

I Like your scape OP, really a lovely and unique tank. And I love how you went with a single species tank, it makes it look so much more realistic. My only suggestion would be to try a lighter background, perhaps white, and see how that looks. you may really like it.

Thank you. Ignore the scape, it is just thrown together . Am hoping to scape the tank better during next water change, I haven't paid much attention to the plant placement etc. at all. Yes I love the one type of fish, and it was an opportunity at the time to do so. Keep thinking the fish need more space but I really think they love the jungle feel to it. I am really torn about ditching the plants altogether and going with just some wood. It's a light blue background and no sweat to try white. That is an idea.

The vallis and red lotus don't really seem affected by the heat.

Decided to try the white background and love it. I removed all plants except the giant val. Please let me know what you think. I have a hell of a time with scaping. That big piece of wood is not waterlogged yet but liking it as is. 117254117255117256117257117258

Tank is slightly cloudy with the plant removal etc. Had to take advantage of my daughter who dropped by with her cell phone. She left too quickly..lol.

I LOVE the white background, really it looks so clean and simple now. I like your scape, and I actually like the piece of wood like that. are those keyhole cichlids? love those little guys personalities if so. The only thing that I think this tank needs is some floating plants. I think some floaters would provide shady areas to the tank and give it some depth.

Very nice looking tank and fish. Looks very clean with the white background. Wood piece looks good too. I’ve seen pics of Jacklyns tanks here and there and she really got a knack on aqua scaping.

Thank you , yes clean and simple for sure. I keep thinning the vallis back, it is such a great plant for the tank. Yes there are two keyholes in there, as well as some rummy nose, bleeding hearts and pristella. May remove the bleeding hearts and go more rummy nose. I will take all and any advice with regards to scaping believe me lol. I may just get some water sprite and see how it goes.

Thank you. I may wedge that bigger piece where it is, not sure. Yes Jacklyn has given some advice which I appreciate because I am always at a loss with scaping tanks. Sometimes I love it...but then it never seems right..lol

Will be interesting to see if the black tails fade with the white background. I'm not a big fan of it, but it does contrast nicely.

Managed to find a pic of these guys back when they were purchased at 2.5-3 inches. They were in a 40 breeder for about 4-5 months I think before I placed them in the 90. 117342

The difference with your new scape rearangement and the white background is night and day Megatrev. It looks much neater and classy this way , honestly. I bet too that the black tails (peppering ) will lessen in some degree with this background and lights .
About the scape . I would transfer the middle Valis / stones section to the both sides and leave the front open .
