I have always wanted a rooster for our flock of Hens and have had several chicks that turned out as Roosters. I raised them until they crowed and then gave them away. I am allowed them here but I did not want to make waves with my neighbors so I did the neighborly thing and re-homed them. Over time one neighbor got chickens also, and another one behind me got a flock of Ducks, hens and 2 Roosters!. Let me Tell you Ducks make Roosters seem quiet! Another guy has quads that they use between their house and ours in the woods. I realized , I don't think these guys will care, and if they did, well I'd deal with it then. I'M getting a Rooster! So I started looking for a Rooster. Craigslist always has some in my area. I found one that another family had but couldn't keep... he was just startng to crow. He is a Mutt, Easter Egger Rooster of Ameraucana descent from what the owners knew which is good as some of my Hens are Easter Eggers. I've had him a few weeks now and he has settled in as the "king" .

Anyhow, We don't usually name our chickens aside from a few that have been with us Years, but I decided to name the new guy in the flock. Had to be the right Name...

Meet ELVIS.

Neat Al. So what's an Easter Egger? How tall is he? Do you want him to fertilize your hens' eggs? Last one. Is there really a variety that's huge like foghorn-leghorn?

We're in a county area just outside city limits, half-acre lots. Folks have chickens and roosters. I've gotten so I don't hear them. I think it may be my own problem, but my son's family bought a house half a block away. They have a very sweet samoyed, but when it's out it barks at everything. That's more of an issue for me, but I haven't said anything.

An Easter Egger is cross that gives different Color eggs. Some of my girls lay blue eggs, other Greenish. Its makes for interesting conversation when we give away a dozen eggs ranging from white to blue to green to Brown.:) Hes a young bird still so not much bigger than the Hens he hangs with. He will hopefully get much much bigger. I've seen some big Roosters but nothing as big as Fog horn-leg horn.I think they call the ones that do an "Ostritch::)

I do want to Breed him to my Hens, I have alot of different breeds here... Barred Rock, leg horn, Blue Orpington, Buff Rock, Easter Eggers.. etc.

He's pretty Al and no worries, he still has quite a bit of growing to do lol. :D Is he still learning how to crow? Can sound quite awful until he gets the hang of it.

He actually picked it up quite fast.. He has a really deep one. Its kind of funny he duals it out with the neighbors rooster thru the woods. Theirs are young too but sound horrendous. A few weeks before we got Elvis one of theirs escaped their fenced yard and was hitting up my Hens! He's going to have quite a surprise if he tries it again.:)

I like that bit of white on the end of his wings; they look like mittens in the 2nd pic.. Great name for this king except I can’t stop picturing him with a little guitar hanging around his neck. That would be funny, but as Elvis would say, “Don’t be cruel” ha ha.

My rooster sounds better than your rooster? Makes me think of parents bragging about how good their kids are in sports compared to their friends.

Now Al if instead of naming him Elvis you had called him The Boss I would have added the text Hatched in the U.S.A.

Now I’m picturing him singing, “ohhhhhhh I’m on fire” with that caption. You are a hoot!

Heaven forbid! ;)

I would be delighted if we were to have a Discus competition based on quality. I have one that I'd enter but I'd put entering aside if I were to be allowed to be a judge. I even have a NADA score card I could share, or we could judge based on nothing but our eye for quality. I'm sure that I'm the only one who would love this. It will never happen :(
