Your Hobby, Your Story" Contest Winners!!!!!!

The following posts have the thread title and a link to the thread in the posts below. Carefully review all the threads in the "Your Hobby Your Story" forum and decide which thread is your favorite thread. Note that the title of the thread is used in the poll.


Please vote on the participant that best expressed their story with words and pics. We are looking for the most interesting, engaging, and descriptive stories. We want voting members to consider when they vote which entrant captured their attention, kept them coming back. Whose story did they most "plug"into? Whose pictures captured their attention most in terms of the story. Who put the most time and effort into the story? Who checked in often with updates? Its not about the quality of the images or Fish, its the about the soul of being a Hobbyist.


We will be awarding cash prizes to the top 2 participants in the poll. First Prize is $200 and second place is $100 .. So please please please vote and take the time to look at each thread. It was a commitment on the part of the participants and it would be great to have a good turn out with the votes.

Hi all,
Thanks for your patience as the team finished wrapping up the contest. If you recall, the idea behind this contest was as follows..


This contest is a classic story book contest. The goal is for members to share their fish keeping stories and hobby with fellow hobbyists here over a 3 month time period. SimplyDiscus will create a special forum section for this to occur in. A member may start up to 3 threads that follow a particular tank of fish they keep It can be Discus or non Discus but must be Fresh water. It can be a grow out tank, a breeding pair, planted or invertebrate tank. It can also be an experimental tank where you are doing something different. There is no set posting requirements but understand that the more you post the better the chance you will win as the contest will be judged by the forum members based on how interesting, informative or just plan cool it is. Basically members will pick the winners by who has shared their hobby best. At judging time we provide some general guidelines for what members should consider.

There is no cost to enter. There will be cash prizes and international members are encouraged to participate. The prize can be sent via paypal or wired.

Prizes to date...

First place $200.00 USD
Second place $100 USD

More Prizes may be added.

The Rules:
1) No off site linked images. You must use the forum software to post the pictures.This will ensure we have this contest saved on our server.
2) You are allowed 1 video per week, a maximum of 8 Videos total . You do not need to use Videos at all
3) Discussions are encouraged, you must be willing to respond to inquiries
4) You are allowed up to 3 threads detailing a specific tank of fish. Once a thread is started you can not change it. A member may start up to 3 threads that follow a particular tank of fish they keep It can be Discus or non Discus but must be Fresh water. It can be a grow out tank, a breeding pair, planted or invertebrate tank. It can also be an experimental tank where you are doing something different.
5) Contest enrollment period is today (June 8,2018) thru June 15, 2018. No additional entries can be made after this 1 week window.
6) You agree by participating in this contest that you will abide by the rules and should there be any issues that arise you accept the forum's decisions in these and contest matters.

Additionally, I am adding a 3rd prize, This prize will address the first contest I had of the "last man standing" Of all the contestants, The top 5 posters that post the most numbers of days will be entered to win $100 (random drawing) as well as will be eligible for the 1st and 2nd place Prizes.

The Poll shows that First place went to Liz! Congratulations LizStreithorst! :) and Second place went to Swedgin!!! Tobi Nice Job and Congratulations. Liz and Tobi you guys did a stellar job on sharing your hobby and I am thrilled for both of You. It was a pleasure reading all the contestant's stories, but in the end you two really did shine!

Initially my idea for this contest was a last man standing type contest where the winner would be the one that did the most updates. The membership thought that may be asking a little much but we opted to build it into this contest.. The Winner is based on which hobbyist posted the most number of days in their contest thread. The team counted them up and it was close between Liz ( 54 days) and Tobi (62 Days). Tobi takes home the "3rd Prize " here as well.! Congratulations Tobi!


So to Recap,
Liz takes first place and a cash prize of $200!!!!!
Tobi takes second place and a cash prize of $100 !!!! as well as the Last Man Standing Prize (3rd Prize) of $100!!!
