Recently got my hands on some awesome whiptails, first species is Loricaria sp Atabapo (crying whiptail), second is Spatuloricaria caquetae. Will get better pics soon, this was after a water change. Unfortunately the tail filaments on the crying whiptails are broken, but the ons on the other species are crazy long. The big one’s (hiding behind the rock) is guesstimated 8 inch long. Will try to snap a goood pic of that one in the next few days.

Also got some new cories to replace what I lost in the vape juice incident, Brochis splendens, Corydoras loxozonus, C. metae and C reynoldsi longnose. While I was there I figured why not get an L200, L190, L007 and L124 to save some gas money.
I’ve also got my eye on a group of C. serratus, a couple of L128 and some L091. Need to negotiate on these though, fish budget is kinda tapped out right now. Trying to trade in my silver superveil angel pairs

VERY COOL! Both the species and the guarding of the eggs.

VERY COOL! Both the species and the guarding of the eggs.

It’s been 9 days now, from what I can see a lot are fertile and developing well. He’s too far away and tucked to get pictures. Can’t wait for them to hatch. Should be another week. No predators in the tank so should be possible to raise them.

Some pics from just now though just for kicks: (couldn’t resist the blue phanthoms, they are stunning)

Very cool Tobi! I can’t wait to see the little baby whip tails or whipper snappers as they say.

Me neither, Patty. Really excited about it.
And I just went to check, there is now a second one holding fresh eggs. I can’t tell if it’s anoter male already brooding or if it’s the same or a different female that laid the first batch. Unexpected by any means, just as the first batch.

Dear God, even your QT tank gives me "tank envy", Tobi! :P. Would love to see pics off juveniles!

Thanks guys. Eggs are gone, guess they hatched and got eaten.

But the hits keep on coming, just got back from the lfs. 2 L168, 1 L190, 1 L081, 1 striped something something, need to check what it is, and these 2(which I vowed I would never buy because I think they are the most overrated pleco species ever:

I judged too quickly. We have survivors!!!! Counted 4 so far, there must be more under all those IAL and other nooks and crannies. They’re so hard to see. And because I thought he batch was lost, I vacuumed the tank yesterday :(

Oh my gosh! I can’t make out the baby whip tails until the last video. They are so small and blend so well with the substrate. I like the zebra plecos by the way although they are suppose to be great at hiding. I had a phantom pleco once that I never saw again once I introduced it to the tank. I vowed never to spend that kind of money on something I’d never see again, but you (and Adam) could make me change my mind.

I see them fairly frequently. Especially the blue phantoms, they’re not shy at all. Zebras are coming out of their shell slowly. They’re eating well, which was my main concern. I’m actually ok with plecos hiding, as long as I know they’re alright. I have 6 L263 in my 325, never see them but still kind of enjoy having them in there. Every now and then I see a caudal fin, and I’m happy as Larry.

I counted over 60 fry in the box today, only 2 haven’t hatched (yet?). I just hope I can keep them alive, but seeing their few siblings on the bottom of the tank gives me hope. Their yolks should be gone by tomorrow I guess and will start feeding baby brine shrimp. Pics and vids to follow

Last 2 didn’t hatch, all others looking great, yolks virtually gone. Started feeding nauplii today, hopefully can take a video later

So cute! That zebra is very cool too. This is great that you are documenting your breeding project for others. Do you know how long you’ll keep them in the breeder box? They look like will outgrow it soon.

I’ll keep them in there until they look big enough to be able to compete for food with the gen pop. Another week at least , probably longer. At the moment this is the only way to ensure they get enough. The pencils (160pc) would get most of the baby brine shrimp before they even hit the ground

I’ve also moved out the panaques and the sabajis, and as soon as the temp in my big tank is down again, doing a heat treatment atm, the blue phantoms, pencils and brochis are leaving as well. I want to make sure the zebras and the baby whiptails don’t have to compete for food too hard.
