Cool Larry! Getting some grow out experience long the way as well! That will be of great benefit once yours are breeding adults!

I like those fish, Larry! The filters are buh tugly, although. Do they work well and how often do you have to clean them?

Thank you, I have been squeezing and rinsing them out twice a week. They are kinda ugly but do the job I need them to do so far.

I think sponge filters are beautiful Larry !
I guess form & function matter more to some ..
I would take a sponge everyday over a canister, and would reluctantly except my loved HOBs if I could not have sponges ..
How are all the round fish doing Larry?

Love sponge filters, Tom. I think they do a great job for a breeding setup.
The young round ones are doing fine.
Hope all is well with you and yours.

Very impressive how these Stendkers have rounded up since they arrived. I suspect you're doing regular and large water changes to keep them in this condition. Great job, Willie

Larry. You are doing a great job with the red scribblet and santarums. Should have some nice breeding pairs in the near future.

Thank you I am looking forward to having some of them pair up and breed, that is what I like best about raising them yourself from smaller size fish. Knowing you put the work into them and they reward you with babies.

I'm sure some people wonder why old guys like me tout Hans' Stendker discus, even when their coloration doesn't match up to the latest Asian strains. Here's why.

1. They'll always grow - 6" easily, 7"+ with frequent, big water changes
2. They'll always spawn - very fertile, produce large spawns

Larry is on his way!

I have actually 6 in that tank, 2 were to the far right of the tank with eggs, I think I have another pair with in the 4 pictured, but they only started to fool around with the cone.

Larry. So, you have the magic water. LOL. Your discus are result of excellent care. Look great. You are doing a great job. The next thing is do you have enough tanks for all the fry down the road. How many confirmed pairs?

That is what is so funny about this, I am using aged well water, no RO mixed in or anything else. I am trying my best to get these grown out right seeing these are going to be part of my breeding stock. I do have plenty of tanks and can add more when the need arises.
Thank you

So far no confirmed pairs in the red Scribbled discus.

As a champion of large, frequent water changes, I should note that conditions that favor maximum growth do not encourage spawning. You'll need to cut down the water changes drastically, as little as once a week, to get them to spawn. Go in with a large change using cooler (5 - 7F lower) and softer (add some R/O) water to get them to pair off.
