View Full Version : Wild Discus, second pics

The 5 Wild Red Santarems that I got last week are doing well. A couple of them turned jet black for a few days but they're over that now. They're all eating now and are getting used to my routines. One thing I've noticed about these fish is that they use their colors much more than domestic Discus do. The stress bars come & go in seconds. I can line up to take a picture of a fish with no bars showing and get a completely different look by the time I take the picture. Overall, they're looking good, I can't believe how round shaped they are for wild fish.

Um, let me think...  ::)  I've got...

5 Wild Red Santarems
6 Canary Yellows
5 Snow Whites
6 Red Spot Diamonds
7 Red Leopards
5 Red Alenquers
9 Cobalts
8 Gold Diamonds
1 Wild Green F1
3 Brilliant Blue
4 Super Red Royal Blue

So that makes it 59 Discus.... wow, I am addicted.

Awesome fish.  With luck you can get some very cool babies out of that bunch!  Keep us appraised of their progress!

It's funny that this thread came up. I sold all of my adults during 2002 and early 2003. Some went to David Kozak, including 2 of these wilds. One has turned out to be a male and has had a few spawns. Here's the first spawn that he produced with a Red Spotted Diamond.

These guys grew really fast and were getting really big when one of my customers from a LFS saw them and offered me a great price for all 25 that I had. I couldn't resist and sold them, they were 3.5" at the time. That was back in March of this year. I saw them recently and they had barelyl grown, maybe they were 4". He's holding them for future breeding, ha.

Now I have this batch from that male and a Red Leopard female.

They are 3.5" as well but I'm not making the same mistake as the previous batch. I hope to hold them until they get closer to 5", assuming I have the room. Again, they are growing very fast and are all very close in size. The male has just spawned with a Rose Red and I should be getting 50 fry from that batch next week.
