Hi Beth,
It's easier than you think.
Brian, it should be a pigeon blood.
The only plecostomus that does not disturb discus fish is nigrolineatus.......and do not expect him to clean up you tank as well.

Hi arvind,
Nigrolineatus plecos used to be very rare but lately I think you can find them in a good shop. Anyway this pleco is lazy and won't clean up your aquarium.
As you can see in the photo of my aquarium (first photo) there is no algae at all. I have no “algae eaters” of any kind but I keep a perfect equilibrium between fish and plant density, which regulates the dissolved organic matter.

Nice tank!
How do u manage the water changes and how frequent?

Hi Beta,
First of all you have to find plants that grow quickly and thus consume a lot of nutrients.
In order to fight the existing problem and help plant growth use nitrate and phosphate absorbers. For example a very good hair algae eliminator is Tetra Minus that reduces nitrates.
Following you should keep fast growing plants that need pruning every 10-15 days and a reasonable number of fish that do not produce more nutrients than the plants consume.
I do a 60% water change once a month

Hi, beautiful tank, nice fish!!!!

I have that 'hair algae' in my planted community tank, I bought some amino (sp???) shrimp... they help a bit. How do you treat?

Hi Barb,
Sometime ago I had a moderate hair algae problem that I could not get rid of. At that time I decided to try Tetra Minus, a product by Tetra that reduces nitrates without any chemicals but with anaerobic bacteria. In 3-4 days I noticed that ALL KINDS OF ALGAE disappeared. Unbelievable!! I’m curious to hear if anyone else used this product.

Hey Georgios, '
it almost looks like a Hifin Blood Diamond to me. Take a look at this picture, this is a hifin blood diamond. they look almost the same. Do u know where where it's parents strains, that may make it a bit easier. Hope that helps ya.

The orange and white discus on the previous page is definately a pigeon blood. Yoiu can tell from the specks of peppering, lack of vertical stress bars and the eye.

Of course you can find some good discus fishes in Greece. Where do you come from?

I have a planted tank and would like to know what plants you are using and at what temp is your water.

Hi KC,
As a matter of fact I don't know the names of the plants. IMO lighting is the most important factor and not temperature. What plants are thriving most in an aquarium depends mainly on its chemistry (e.g. carbon hardness, CO2, nitrat etc). That's why I use the "trial and error" method

Do the pics ever stop? I love it! The Pigeon you were talking about looks like it could almost be a peach panda, which is really just a fancy name for a certain type of pigeon.
