Amazingly, these fish came from a LFS. Not a typical one, but someone opened a store in the Minneapolis area recently focusing solely on specialty fish.

It took a while for these fish to get adjusted (like about 5 months), but they're finally starting to put on weight. I was starting to get concerned!

DJ:

They look similar but have very different backgrounds. The ones you have I hand picked out of a discus specialty store in Taiwan 18 months ago. I expect these fish to lighten up significantly as they get larger.

Thanks for the nice words, everyone. Several people e-mailed to ask about the store. Its called Premier Pets and its located in one of the northern suburbs of Minneapolis, not too far from the city.

I'll have to run over there on sat. I haven't seen too many stores with healthy Discus.

Willie,
Where in Minneapolis is this store? My wife and I are stopping in Minneapolis in January for 1 night on our way to Cancun and I would be delighted to visit a good store or breeder.

I stopped at Premier Pets in Ramsey MN today to look and ended up buying 5 discus.

They have 5 tanks of discus ranging from 2" to 4" in size and ranging in price from $20-$70 each. There are 8-10 strains on hand and around 100 discus.

They currently have a sale going on. All discus stock 10% off plus buy 4 get 1 free.

I picked up 2 blue sapphire, 2 marlboro red (I think they're tangerines and not MR's), and 1 Red Turk. All were around 3". I'll post a pic when I borrow a digital camera.

I finally borrowed a digital camera. This is the first time I've taken pictures of fish and the first time I've tried to post a picture.
