Great job!! BTW, that stand will hold a lot more weight than what you are putting on it.

That'll be plenty strong. I've built my own. Built a 2x4 frame just like yours and put some pine on the outside. Added a little stain and polyurethane, it's looks great. Is't holding a 55gal tank. About 550lbs. Go look at whst they sell at the LFS's the cheap ones are just 3 pieces of fiberboard with a piece on top and bottom. My next one will just be 3/4" plywood.

beav,

looking good. there will be no problems with weight on these with 29's. if you go to large tanks, then remember that all of the weight on this setup is being carried by the bolts. and in this case that is fine.if you want to have more weight capacity, the put the vertical 2x4's under the horizontical 2x4's so the weight is transferred through them.

Great Job on the Stand!! Its amazing what a few 2x4's will hold. I am in the process of finishing my basement and I just completed my office down there. I put a 29gal in the wall so it looks like a picture from the one side. Hopefully I will be able to get a pic or two of it on here soon.

I think that when I get a fishroom I am inviting Jim and Rick over to build me some stands!

Here's a link to mine http://members.shaw.ca/dclubine/tankstand.htm It's brutal to look at but it's fine for the room that it's in. It holds four 55g tanks as well as having room for the sump underneath. It's bolted to a shelf that's on one end but otherwise it's pretty much free-standing.

John

PS. Rich, didn't you sell that tank & stand?

John,
I sold the 120 gallon setup that I had those round flat fish in hmmmm what were they called again? Anyway they are orginially from the amazon , I think.
The pics you see are tanks I still have. My 150 African, my 125 Angel/community and my 40 with a Red Oscar . I got a few more yet.
The 120 went to my ex brother in law. Actually, he's more of a brother to me. My stupid sister divorced him, not me!

Hunterbeav I built 2 in the last week just like yours but I put the boards that go across the bottom 12 inchs off the floor. I put 3/8 plywood on the top and on the bottom. The board on the bottom holds my air pump and power strip. Both stands have a 29 gallon tank on them one with a Blue Diamond pair and the other with a pair of Golden Sunrise. Now I can take a 100 gallon tank out of service and put my other 29s on that stand for my 4 other pairs. I also built a stand out of 2x4 and 3/4 oak for my 180 gallon tank in the house which holds 10 Angel Blue Diamonds. This holiday season I am getting a camera so I can show it all off.

nice stand...did you add the moulding to the tank or did it come that way?

ronrca

The tank itself I bought and all it had was the regular black trim. The wood corners was my dad's idea!

Here is a pic of my 29g stand which I built into a wall. This is when it was under construction. It is now just about completed except for the doors but my discus seem to be loving it. From the other side the tank is flush with the wall.
Ill get a new pic up soon

Beautiful! I must see a pic that is finished! With your permission, may I copy the pic and show my wife for purposes on convincing her how good it will look in our house as well? ;) ;D

Sure thing--copy away. Ill get ya a new one once I get my roll turned in.
I dont have a digital camera...yet so I get them put on a disk when I have them developed. Good luck convincing the wife-mine was pretty cool about it besides it looks much better than in the middle of the basement floor on a wrought iron stand.

Beautiful stands guys.... i just made mine and they are just 3x3s with 6x2 horizontals. I started with concrete pillars so am working my way down.... one day i'll be able to show the tanks not just just the fish ::)

Nice Jobs.... When I get my digi I'll flash em', I still reckon they're nice as pieces of post modern, deconstructionalist bauhaus, linear fraudian sculptures... oh yeah, they hold up tanks as well....
