Fishless cycle - Day 23
At 12:00 noon today, I added ammonia so that it registered 3 ppm. At 6:00 PM my test kit is reading 0 ppm ammonia. :o
Unfortunately, my nitrItes are through the roof. :(
NitrAtes are at 10 ppm.
Should I keep adding ammonia?

I added a little bit (less than 1ppm) every other day once I showed nitrItes. I don't know if it is necessary or not.

Howdy George;
Sounds like you anarobic filter has kick-ed in, ( the ammonia eating bacteria); great.!!!
Now, the arobic filter bacteria has to grow. The ones that eat all them there nasty nitrites. Remember, all the different bacteria's need food, and Ammonia is their main ( only )source of food. Here is a chance for you to experiment; see how long it takes for different amounts of ammonia, ( 1ppm - 2ppm - 3ppm ) to be "consumed" by the anarobic bacteria... Same for the time it take to consume the nitrites; and what amount of nitrates are produced.
This information will give you a guide line for the capacity of that filter size. in relation to discus stocking amount.
keep the information coming..
