I have 4 250 watt ebo's in my 200 connected to a controller from jhemco. My basement temp gets down to 65 or so during cold nights and this setup will keep my tank at whatever temp I put on the dial. plus there's a constant 4 gal per hour stream of cold filtered tapwater into the tank. The tanks temp would fluxuate 3-4 degrees using the 4 ebos on their own, before I got the controller.

Paul...

I just replaced all my Hagen's with the Titanium's, and absolutely love them. No regrets, and the hubby didn't seem to mind too much. *whew...

Ended up going with the 5 watt per gallon rule. Who are you ordering from... I found Foster & Smith had the best price and shipping......

Happy Thanksgiving...

Julz....

IMO Thinking about it I would probably go for the 3 250 or 3 300 watt heaters. I think the higher wattage might be able to handle the tank on a cold day incase one of them dies.

I just ordered 2 250 watt heaters from http://www.wcaquatics.com and I really do like them. The ones they sell have external temp control and the temp sensor is seperate. It takes a little getting used to 3 wires in the tank but the fish dont seem to mind :)

Peace

I just replase the Ebo on the 125 with a Via 250 Titanium. Nice heater! It is smaller dia and short so it fits in the Wet/Dry and then I am able to run the temp wire out into the tank.

It does very good job of keeping the tank at 86 F. The only thing I worry about is that it seems to be on all the time! Anyone have this heater for a long time? I have a funny feeling that it will burn out because it's on so much..

PS: Is there a big diff between the Stainless steel and Titaniums? Or is it just the metal used, and if so,which is beter?

That's a pretty good price, DJ -- close to mailorder. Is it one of those chain stores or an independent shop?

Has anyone bought the pricey one with the temperature readout yet?

willie,

that is an independant store. they are like 30 dollars and then i get a 20% fish club discount.

Don't forget to get a digital thermonintor... Just the extra bit of insurance! i bought a bunch from home hardware for $8.00 Canadian; very accurate and consistant. at a glance I can tell the tank temperature.. no guess work now..

Smokey
(tanks at 87.4 F)

Hello All! I also have been thinking of going to Titanium . I have one that I use in my holding tank. I did have one experiance with it. Totally my fault. I completely drained my holding tank and forgot to unplug the heater. They get really red :o And the end cap melted right off! I am still using it and it keeps the water at the right temp. I have one question though. Is there a diffrence between Titanium and Stainless Steel? Other than stainless steals are less expensive.

deb,

i wonder if titanium isn't a better heat conductor than s.s is. how much cheaper are the stainless heaters?

I don't know which is better, SS or Titanium. I recently bought 4 ViaAqua Stainless (300watt) and installed 2 in my new 150gal. I am very pleased ! They keep the temperature, and the dials (not digital) are reasonably accurate. The 2 300's keep the tank very stable.
Cheers, Francisco.

I have changed over to the ViaAqua 300 watt Titanium. They do a good job and they all are consentent. They heat and maintain the temp. I also go to a local store and use indoor/outdoor temp guages., takes they guess work out of the temp. Think they cost 9.00 each, sure beats reading floating therms.

I would probably go with 2 heaters at 350 watts. Even with a malfunction it would take a long while to boil your fish. A 500 watter could do it faster. Plus the 700 watts of total heater is plenty.

Well thanks guys and gals on your opinoin on the heater size poll i will order 2 300watt Via Aqua but the Stainless is the cheaper heater any 1 know why it is ??? ??? ??? i did buy a 200 watt stainless for one of my tanks and i can see no difference in the heaters as far a looks go. Ok why is the Stainless cheaper ??? ???

stainless is a less expensive metal to produce and mine than titanium is. Titanium is lighter and stronger, although i'm not sure which has the higher resistivity. I would guess SS though, which would make titanium better.
