Just for the record what is the line where Discus are irritated by ammonia and a W/C is needed. I am not lazy on W/Cs but have a tank that has not cycled yet. My little test strip says 0.0ppm good, .25ppm safe, .50ppm stressful to fish. I am sure that for Discus the limits are much lower but wanted to get your opinions. You know I have never started a poll so lets give it a shot.

If the biological filter is working properly, there should be no detectable ammonia.
The safest level is 0 (zero, cero, zilch, nada).

Tinpusher,
Harmful ammonia levels vary depending also on ph! However, like Francisco mentioned, 0 is the level! Even though the discus do not show 'stress' from ammonia, they may be suffering anyways! I understand the question though however by keeping it 0, you will not have a problem!
