The anatomy of the outside of a discus fish, or the inside? Here's an illustration of the fins and body parts. This was sent to me by Barry Illman when I ordered Prazi last year.

here is a really great thread from DAAH, the owner of this fish didn't know why he mysteriously died so he did a full on autopsy. it's very graphic but it's so informative it's waaaay worth it.

look at it, it's great

Exactly Carol...It would be awsome to have a reference section where you could see a picture of a condition and read what the treatment is. Maybe a poll type response showing all treatmnts and highlihting the most used the most used.

Here is the Discus Anatomy print I sell on the forum. (Breeders, Importers, Vendors section),
http://forum.simplydiscus.com//index.php?board=12;action=display;threadid=9552
Or check out the banner at the bottom of the page (Discus Anatomy Print) and it will take you to the illustraton pictured. The stomach is not visible (was on the other side of the liver) and is a fairly small organ compaired to the liver! You can see the swimbldder, heart, kidneys, ovaries and intestines easily. External anatomy featured as well! I still have prints for sale too if you are interested. LOL, Peggy (cartoon) :)

..and Peggy's print looks great as a piece of art, as well as being informative...
Recommend it if you don't already own one!

I am interested in the digestive system of the discus. Does the discus have a gullet, like some birds? It seems that the fish get puffy under the chin when eating, I've rarely seen an actual bulging belly but this is not the stomach area.

Discus do not have a gullet like birds do. There would be no way for the discus to move its head back and forth like a bird does to establish a "grinding" motion. Although birds have scales and other similarities to fish, fish have no gullet! Good observation however.
The area you are inquiring about is probably just fatty tissue as no internal organs are located there. Your fishes are just well fed and happy! :)
