Currently I am using all GE Aqua Sun flourscent Lights over my Discus tanks but don't feel like the true reds, blues and greens of the fish are being shown off fully to do them justice. One of my tanks is a 125g that has two 36" and two 12" flourscent lights on top of the tank yet the fishes coloring does not show up like I would like.
Anyone currently using a good flourscent bulb that they are very pleased with and that shows of the beautiful colors of there discus?? If so, please let me know the type and how much wattage you are using over your tank.
Thank you for your time.

I have always heard that GE Chroma 50's. or sunsticks, are the best cheapest bulb for the money. I would look for something in the 6700K range, with enough wattage to light your tank well.

I use the Corallife 50/50 and its good for reds, but not blues.

Hey Chong, I am trying to keep up! I am just an old man now, this board moves too fast for me sometimes...lol. Great to have you back.
Don ;D
Im replacing my coral life 50/50 with Ge aqurays salt/fresh, seems to be good words about them.

Tritons are good bulbs. they are a bit more, but the manufacturer ( Interpet ) claims they are good till they burn out. Other mfrs. recommend changing bulbs every six months. :o

I think the 5000 kelvin lights like the GE Sunshine/ Chroma 50 tend to look a bit on the green side and prefer the whiter appearance of the lights in the 6400-6700 Kelvin range. The GE Sunshine/Chroma 50 are a good deal for the price though.
For normal output fluorescents, I like the ZooMed "UltraSun" lights.

Some people swear by Tritons (I think Interpret/ Aquarium Products markets these) as being the best, but I think they are pricey and get a little hotter than most lights, however they emphasize the reds nicely.

Just my opinion.
Hope this helps.
